The President of the Republic of Mauritius pays state visit to his counterpart in Portugal in the margin of the Eurafrica Forum 2024. His Excellency, Mr Prithvirajsing Roopun, President of the Republic of Mauritius paid a state visit to his counterpart in Portugal, his Excellency Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, this week. The President is leading a delegation composed of representatives of the Economic Development Board and the Mauritius Tourism Authority to the Eurafrica Forum 2024. The event took place on July 15 & 16th, 2024 at Cascais, Portugal. The EurAfrican Forum is an action-oriented platform that seeks to strengthen collaboration between Europe and Africa, enhancing shared green and inclusive growth, unveiling innovative business and social impact investment opportunities, as well as generating more synergies between both innovation models. Constituted by groundbreakers, opinion leaders, dreamers and mavericks who are shaping today’s Africa, the forum brings together the “Euro-African Community Network”. An IPPA( between Mauritius and Portugal Investment Promotion and Protection Agreements) has been in force since 1999 and provides the necessary framework to boost investment flows and create mutually beneficial partnerships. Both countries continue to develop their economies and seek diversification, exploring these opportunities could lead to fruitful outcomes for businesses and investors alike. Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister, SOK Chenda Sophea, visited Turkey on May 27th, 2024, to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new economic cooperation opportunities. He met with representatives from Turkish enterprises Koru Ankara Hospital, Dedeman Hotel & Resort International, and Kiddy Company. Koru Ankara Hospital is exploring the potential of introducing medical tourism to Cambodia, which could boost the country's healthcare sector and position it as a hub for medical tourism in Southeast Asia. Dedeman Hotel & Resort International is focusing on Cambodia's burgeoning tourism sector, aiming to develop world-class accommodation facilities and create employment opportunities. Kiddy Company is also exploring investment opportunities in Cambodia's educational and investment financing sectors, focusing on communication technology systems to improve the quality of education and equip Cambodian students with global skills. These potential investments promise to usher in an era of enhanced economic cooperation between Cambodia and Turkey, symbolizing the shared vision of sustainable development, economic diversification, and strengthening international ties through strategic partnerships. The port of Israel - arriving to Singapore as well! We were pleased to host Singapore's ambassador to Israel, Mr. Ian Mak, who came to visit the port with the aim of promoting the strategic cooperation between the port and Singapore, in the areas of innovation, acceleration and joint investments in start-up companies.   The meeting was attended by the chairman of the port, Shaul Schneider, the acting CEO of the port, Eli Bar Yossef, and the chief innovation officer, roy avrahami. This is an important meeting in the expansion of the activity of our innovation array, overseas as well, as part of which we have already established innovation embassies in New York, New Jersey, Barcelona, Florida, the port of Santos in Brazil, the port of Thessaloniki in Greece, and we are working on more and more new places that will lead to joint and exciting successes. Jethro Yee 👏💪🏿👍 #Tanzania and #Singapore are two countries with different historical backgrounds, development paths, and levels of economic and technological advancement. Let's compare the two countries in terms of their transitions to independence, becoming republics, and their subsequent development trajectories: 1. #Tanzania: - Independence: Tanzania (then Tanganyika) gained independence from British colonial rule on December 9, 1961. It became a sovereign state under the leadership of Julius Nyerere. - Republic: Tanzania declared itself a republic on December 9, 1962, with Julius Nyerere as its first President. - Development: Tanzania adopted a policy of African socialism, known as Ujamaa, under Nyerere's leadership. The country focused on rural development, self-reliance, and communal living. However, this approach faced challenges, and Tanzania experienced economic difficulties and slow development compared to some of its neighbors. 2. #Singapore: - Independence: Singapore gained independence from British colonial rule on August 9, 1965, after a brief period as part of Malaysia. It became a sovereign state under the leadership of Lee Kuan Yew. - Republic: Singapore declared itself a republic on December 25, 1965, with Yusof bin Ishak as its first President. - Development: Singapore adopted a pro-business, export-oriented economic model and focused on developing key industries like manufacturing, finance, and shipping. Through sound economic policies, strategic planning, and investments in education and infrastructure, Singapore transformed from a developing country into a high-income economy with one of the highest standards of living in the world.

Supported by GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH), the summit brought together representatives from European Business Organisations (EBOs) across Asia - EuroCham Myanmar, EuroCham Indonesia (The European Business Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia), EuroCham Vietnam, EABC -The European Chamber of Commerce Thailand, ECCIL EuroCham Laos, European Union Chamber of Commerce in China, The European Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, European Chamber of Commerce, Singapore (EuroCham Singapore), and Eurocham Mongolia, to discuss their sustainability state and explore innovative methods for integrating sustainable practices into their operations. 🇲🇲 On 28 March, EuroCham Myanmar welcomed young future professionals from the MEETup (Myanmar-EU Empowerment) Programme, funded by the European Union and organized by the EU Delegation in Myanmar, to gain insights into the European business landscape, its evolution, current challenges, and outlook in the country. 🇵🇭 In Brussels last 18 March, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines celebrated the official resumption of negotiations for the EU-Philippines Free Trade Agreement, marking a significant milestone in fostering economic ties between the regions. Through various initiatives, including position papers and high-level dialogues, the ECCP has been actively advancing the EU-Philippines FTA. 🇱🇦 Over in Laos last 14 March, ECCIL EuroCham Laos had the privilege of hosting Ms. Jutta Urpilainen, European Commissioner for International Partnerships, reaffirming the European Union's commitment to supporting quality private investment under the EU Global Gateway strategy. 🇻🇳 And looking ahead on 2 November, EuroCham Vietnam is gearing up for the Green Economy Forum (GEF) 2023 in Hanoi, offering a platform for impactful discussions and advocacy for sustainable practices and policies.
