🚨 The AU Champion on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (PPPR) is raising alarm over the rapid spread of Mpox across Africa. With over 17,000 cases and 517 deaths reported in 13 AU Member States since the start of 2024, the situation has become dire, with a 160% surge in cases compared to the same period last year. 💡 In response, the AU Champion fully supports Africa CDC’s declaration of Mpox as a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security. This empowers Africa CDC to lead a coordinated response, strengthen community engagement, and collaborate with international partners. 🌍 The Champion urges AU Member States to increase domestic resource allocation, lead their national responses, and enhance capacities in crucial areas like case detection and cross-border surveillance. Additionally, there is a call for the international community to mobilize vaccines and other medical countermeasures for Africa, ensuring equitable access through Africa CDC's established mechanisms. 🤝 The AU Champion also calls on the global community to finalize a fair and equitable Pandemic Agreement, reinforcing the need for urgent and united action to prevent a regional and global pandemic. #HealthSecurity #MpoxResponse #AfricaUnite #GlobalHealth #AUChampion

The First Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) meeting for the project for Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis-Phase 2 The first JCC meeting for Phase 2 of the project for the Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis was held in Port Moresby on the 28th of June. The purpose was to do an overview and discuss progress, the status of LF measures in each target provinces. JICA and the Government of Japan have been collaborating with World Health Organization (WHO) and respective Governments of the Pacific islands courtiers in The Pacific Programme for the Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis (PacELF) for decades, achieving significant milestones. The Provision of Special Medical Equipment for Infection Control (Lymphatic Filariasis) Project, 2000-2016, provided 14 Pacific countries with DEC, one of the drugs used in mass medication for LF control, and test kits. In 2018-2023, the Project for Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis in the Pacific Region (Phase 1) implemented Mass Drug Administration (MDA) and Transmission Assessment Survey (TAS) in each country and strengthened their capacities for six Pacific countries. In April 2023, The Lymphatic Filariasis Elimination Project Phase 2 commenced as a continuation of Phase 1. The project is working to strengthen the implementation capacity of MDAs and TAS/IDA impact studies (IIS) in a target seven provinces* in PNG. Representatives from the target provinces and stakeholders (NDOH, WHO, JICA) attended the project’s JCC. *Target Provinces are New Ireland Province, East New Britain Province, West New Britain Province, East Sepik Province, West Sepik Province, Manus Province and The Autonomous Region of Bougainville. #JICAPapuaNewGuinea #Health_Sector #WHOPapuaNewGuinea #PNGNationalDepartmentOfHealth #SDGsGoal_3 https://lnkd.in/gnVJWeWr

We have been introduced to the term "religion extremism" since the 9/11 attacks. The target of the narrative is Islam. However, even though we witnessed so many casualties, we never heard the term "state extremism". Why? Because the target of the narrative is "these states", which has targeted religion for its own ends for so long. Let's wait and see if there will be scientific research from extremism researchers on "state extremism". The fact is that there are many, even witnessed by all humans in the world. It takes many forms, from boycotting a country's sovereignty (such as the election case in Venezuela to the commemoration of the Hiroshima bombing in Japan) to genocide in Palestine. Talking about humanity...? However, are all of us who witness it still considered human...? ...this is the end of humanity
