Promoting Interoperability of Sustainable Finance Taxonomies On March 6th, UNDP hosted a roundtable with leading global institutions to discuss the implementation of the Roadmap for Advancing Interoperability and Comparability of Sustainable Finance Taxonomies (Taxonomy Roadmap). Launched at #COP29 in Azerbaijan last November, this initiative is a collaborative effort by UNDP the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan, IFC - International Finance Corporation, Sustainable Banking and Finance Network (SBFN), and the International Platform on Sustainable Finance (IPSF). International cooperation on approaches to identify, verify, and assess the sustainability of assets, projects, and activities is essential. This collaboration reduces the risk of fragmentation and greenwashing, strengthen investor confidence, and expand capital flows to sustainable investments. ✅ Key Milestone: The roundtable underscored the growing importance of interoperability in the global sustainable finance ecosystem. ✅ Global Platform: The Taxonomy Roadmap will serve as a crucial platform for coordination, collaboration, and alignment of taxonomy initiatives. Expertise France and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH unite their efforts within U-LEAD with Europe program to sustain the decentralization reform in Ukraine. Sofia Oliynyk, Country Director of Expertise France in Ukraine, and Bastian Veigel, GIZ Ukraine Programme Director of U-LEAD with Europe , signed the respective Memorandum of Understanding at the launch event of Phase III of the program, which took place in Kyiv, Ukraine on 18 March 2025. The official representatives of the European Union Delegation to Ukraine and the Embassies of France, Germany, Denmark, Poland and Slovenia attended the event in order to renew their commitment to strengthening local self-governance in Ukraine. U-LEAD with Europe is a programme supporting the decentralisation reform in Ukraine since 2016, enhancing the capacities of local governments, and fostering regional development and cooperation between municipalities in the context of Ukraine’s EU integration. RELEVE project, funded by the Ministère des Affaires étrangères français and implemented by Expertise France, has been providing French support, expertise and assistance to Ukrainian local authorities since January 2024, advancing decentralization reform in Ukraine, alongside the sustainable recovery of Ukrainian regions and municipalities, with a special focus on Chernihiv region. The agreement will now provide formal grounds for both sides to join forces in order to reach the best possible results in the following objectives: 🔹 Strengthening capacities of actors at national level to integrate good practices of European countries to further advance decentralisation in Ukraine and in the context of EU integration. 🔹 Strengthening capacities of municipalities in the 4 regions supported by RELEVE to plan and implement efficient and inclusive recovery measures and manage local reconstruction projects. 🔹 Supporting Ukrainian municipalities to enter partnerships with French municipalities within U-LEAD with Europe’s Bridges of Trust with a focus of providing additional possibilities for resources and capacity development for municipalities in Ukraine to engage in local reconstruction. Such support is envisaged to include study visits between Ukrainian and French municipalities and internships for Ukrainian local representatives in France. Berlin Energy Week and Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue are underway #BETD25! One topic that is prominent on the agenda since it is pivotal whenever we discuss the climate-neutral transformation and the #JustTransition is #GreenSkills. Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH together with International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) have taken this as an opportunity to organise a panel discussion together with representatives from Kenya, Pakistan, South Africa, the European Commission, and World Resources Institute. It was my pleasure to co-host this event together with dear Francesco La Camera.   Our discussion focused on how global cooperation can be strengthened to prepare the workforce for a sustainable future. It explored how the work of the Global Initiative on Skills for the New and Just Economy, championed by GIZ, and IRENA’s new Global Pledge on Skilling for the Energy Transition can create a powerful synergy to enhance skilling efforts in practical ways. The discussion highlighted the main challenges in addressing #SkillsShortages, priority actions needed to accelerate #SkillsDevelopment and what role international cooperation can play at country level in addressing respective skills shortages. Key takeaways from our discussion were:  ✅International Cooperation is key: GIZ, IRENA and our partner countries will work closely together in advancing skilling efforts; ✅Country-to-country exchange on best practices and lessons learned is highly valuable, especially for countries that are now starting to invest in accelerated skills development.   We look forward to keep working together on this. It is estimated that the healthcare sector generates 30% of the global volume of new data annually. The success of global and public health, healthcare services, and research will depend on how effectively this data can be accessed and utilized. To establish a strong foundation for health data, information from different sources and countries must be brought together. This requires strategic alliances, technical solutions, and shared data standards. Europe is already leading the way with the European Health Data Space. Building on this example, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH are working together to create the conditions for global health data spaces in the long term. This offers a multitude of opportunities, from better healthcare and stronger research to economic growth and enhanced global cooperation. Last week, Charité and GIZ held their second strategic workshop, focusing on leveraging digital health solutions, advancing local production of vaccines and medicines, tackling Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), and sharing insights from health systems strengthening in Africa, Germany, and Ukraine.
