General Managers are the lifeblood of retail, full stop. Their ability to be shoulder to shoulder, create fun, lead by example, and inspire others is unmatched in other roles. It’s why any company that wants to succeed long term will fight for them and the support they need and deserve, authentically (GMs can spot fake a mile away). What is this picture, you ask? If you look closely you will see a person, apron ties visible, amidst all that trash. It makes me smile because I used to tell my Del Mar, CA team not to worry about the trash during peak shifts and to toss it at the back door so they could stay focused on peak-but then it piled high and blocked the door! Their focus broke sales records. But then, the door was blocked. Solution? Today is the start of my 5th month at Harneys and here's the single biggest thing I've learned... The central importance of trust. Harneys count some of the world's leading law firms and most discerning families and individuals amongst our clients. When you are a trusted adviser to those sorts of organisations and people - they place significant trust in you. But that trust starts within our walls. It's part of the DNA of our culture. Colleagues can and do trust in one another's work ethic, ability and delivery; they trust the other has their back, across jurisdictions and time zones. There's also huge trust placed in our leaders and business functions - the way in which they nuture, develop and lead iniatives that further our global aims. This culture of trust creates an iron, tall fence, which means Harneys can confidently open the gate to clients and let them on the inside. That's a powerful proposition.

Do What’s Right, Even if It is Not Expected: "Often, it’s just a tiny bit more effort. Not long ago, I wrote an article and created a video on Doing More Than Expected – even when it’s not included in your job description. I used the example of the server at a restaurant who ran outside during a storm to move the outdoor furniture blowing across the patio to a safer, more secure spot. He returned to the restaurant, drenched from the rain, to applause from the guests. I jokingly asked him, “Was moving patio furniture included in your job description?” He said, “I just do what it takes.” That’s a great attitude to have. First, you have to be the kind of person who innately knows you should do something right, even if it isn’t expected. Second, you have to be empowered to make those choices and act on them. Officially it is only from tomorrow. In mind & heart, I am already there since a few weeks. I am very proud to take up the role and the responsibilities of COO (Chief Operating Officer) within the Sprimoglass Group. In this role I will combine my Supply Chain activities with the full Operations scope. Together we will strive for excellence in order to reach the next level in serving our customers. Fortunately I had the opportunity to constitute a strong Operations Leadership Team that will help me on a daily basis to achieve our ambitious targets. Just before my first day I want to thank them for their drive, creativity and empathy. From my side, I offer them all my mental support to make a success out of their challenges.
