An interesting article in Marketing Week caught my eye – particularly relevant for those of us working in B2B and finding it tough to get cut through. The latest research from the LinkedIn B2B Institute and Warc reveals B2B brands that make an explicit promise to their customers are nearly three times more likely to drive market share growth. I consistently emphasize the importance of brand messages in B2B, where there can be a bias towards product-centric messages and short-term tactics. But this research reinforces that bold, brand-led ideas and long-term strategies are crucial. Key findings include: - B2B brands making a promise to customers are 2.9x more likely to see market share growth - Interestingly, the promise can be boiled down to three core aspects: offering better value and quality, ease of use, or providing a unique emotional experience. The most encouraging part? Making a promise is “free” and can be a significant competitive advantage even for businesses with much smaller budgets. All of this shows the importance of being market-oriented. Businesses that take the time to understand and promise what their customers want are better positioned for long-term success.
