Writing in The Hill, GCOA CEO Michael Hodin and former president of AFAR Jim Kirkland address the Cancer Moonshot Initiative and highlight the critical need to invest in innovation for healthy aging. Current state and federal policy threatens to derail the fantastic strides made in new oncology treatment by limiting access and slowing progress in development - undercutting the goal established by the administration of cutting the cancer deathrate by 2047. Without putting patients first and focusing on equitable access, especially for older Americans, this goal is unattainable. Read the op-ed here: https://lnkd.in/ewRUyFWQ

One of GO2’s top priorities is lung cancer’s unique impact on women. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States and the number of young women with lung cancer who never smoked continues to rise. In fact, two-thirds of never-smokers diagnosed with lung cancer are women. There is no clear answer as to why this is the case, and the only way to find out is with more research. To further advance making women’s health a national priority, we recently joined hundreds of women’s health champions by signing two letters sent to First Lady Dr. Jill Biden who leads the The White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research. The letters offered important insights and recommendations that will fundamentally improve the health of all women. https://lnkd.in/eF5MviDr

Patient advocates and women’s rights leaders from around the world met in Brussels in May 2024, to share strategies to tackle declining screening rates and achieve the goal of eliminating cervical cancer. Thank you Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) Blog and especially Matejka Rebolj and Jane Rigney for summarizing the outcomes of the meeting where I was also invited as a guest speaker. "Many countries have by now committed to implementing strategies to eradicate cervical cancer. A world without this devastating disease may indeed be within reach with the right political and societal commitment, and patient advocacy groups are crucial in achieving this historic goal. The time to act is now!" We can end cervical cancer if we, healthcare professionals, scientists, policy and decision-makers, patient advocacy groups, local communities, put our heads together. #endcervicalcancer #prevention https://lnkd.in/eJKfWPKV

Cancer continues to be one of the greatest health challenges facing Europe. While we have achieved significant scientific progress in recent decades, the reality remains: every second person will be diagnosed with cancer, and many will die from it. We can’t accept this reality. But what will it take to redefine the future cancer care? 💡💡💡 We need bold, tangible action. And we need to work together, with a focus on four key pillars of opportunity: 📣 Early detection 📣 Timely and equitable access to diagnostics and treatment 📣 Equitable access to clinical trials, and 📣 Sustainable and resilient health systems. I’ve set out some thoughts in the following article - I encourage you to take a moment to read this and welcome all perspectives. https://bit.ly/3MBDZ8n David Fredrickson Susan Galbraith Sunil Verma Benjamin Moutier Heather Moses Sandro Cesaro Thomas Di Maio David Dellamonica Sjoerd Hubben Jennifer Shum Daniel Widrig Joel Plaja
