One of GO2’s top priorities is lung cancer’s unique impact on women. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States and the number of young women with lung cancer who never smoked continues to rise. In fact, two-thirds of never-smokers diagnosed with lung cancer are women. There is no clear answer as to why this is the case, and the only way to find out is with more research.
To further advance making women’s health a national priority, we recently joined hundreds of women’s health champions by signing two letters sent to First Lady Dr. Jill Biden who leads the The White House Initiative on Women’s Health Research. The letters offered important insights and recommendations that will fundamentally improve the health of all women.
