How can we accelerate progress towards these goals? What innovative solutions can be implemented globally? How can individuals and organizations contribute to this mission?
🌍 Are We on Track to Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030?🌍 The 2024 Sustainable Development Report is out, and the findings are eye-opening. Here are some key insights: Global SDG Progress: Progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has stalled since 2020. Despite efforts, no country is on track to achieve all 17 SDGs by 2030. Top Performers: Countries like Finland, Sweden, and Denmark continue to lead with scores above 80. However, the gap between high-performing and low-performing countries remains significant. BRICS and BRICS+: For the first time, Guinea-Bissau has been included in the rankings. The BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) and newly invited BRICS+ countries (Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE) have shown varied progress. Zero Hunger (SDG 2): Alarmingly, no country is on track to achieve Zero Hunger. Issues like undernourishment, obesity, and unsustainable agriculture practices are prevalent across the globe. Life on Land (SDG 15): There has been an improvement in protecting biodiversity, with 45.6% of terrestrial sites being protected. However, challenges like deforestation and species survival remain critical. Climate Action (SDG 13): CO2 emissions remain a pressing issue, with a global average of 2.3 tons per capita from fossil fuel combustion and cement production. Significant reductions are needed to meet climate targets. Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17): Government spending on health and education as a percentage of GDP varies widely, with high-income countries spending more compared to others. This highlights the need for increased international cooperation and financial support. Let's Discuss: How can we accelerate progress towards these goals? What innovative solutions can be implemented globally? How can individuals and organizations contribute to this mission? 🔗 Read the full report and join the conversation on how we can drive sustainable development forward! https://lnkd.in/eqiKbGH

Sustainable Development report by a UN initiative shows that there is an alarming Progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)! 🌏 The world is off track in achieving the UN's SDGs by 2030. Only 16% (!) of targets are on pace, with hunger, sustainable cities, and environmental goals lagging furthest behind. 📣 Gap widens between rich and poor nations. Nordic countries lead, while least developed countries fall behind. 🤝 Global cooperation is crucial. A new index ranks Barbados highest and the US lowest in commitment to UN multilateralism. 🥙 Food and land systems need a major shift. Current trends worsen hunger, obesity, and emissions. A "global sustainability" pathway requires dietary changes, increased productivity, and deforestation prevention. Urgent action is needed! Reform of the global financial architecture and stronger international cooperation are essential to achieve sustainable development for all. Sustainable Development Report 2024 was released. Key findings: 1. On average, only 16 percent of the SDG targets are on track to be met globally by 2030, with the remaining 84 percent showing limited progress or a reversal of progress. 2. The pace of SDG progress varies significantly across country groups. Nordic countries continue to lead on SDG achievement, with the BRICS countries making significant progress while poor and vulnerable nations lag far behind. 3. Sustainable development remains a long-term investment challenge. Reforming the global financial architecture is more urgent than ever. 4. Global challenges require global cooperation. Barbados ranks the highest in its commitment to UN-based multilateralism; the United States ranks last. 5. The SDG targets related to food and land systems are particularly off-track. The SDR evaluates three possible pathways towards achieving sustainable food and land systems. https://lnkd.in/eRa6C-fX
