AIT says recycling aluminum from existing scrap has "huge" potential, requiring only 5% of the energy required to produce the primary material. RecAL is partly funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programmer, with additional support coming from 19 partner organizations from nine European countries. RecAL lists several challenges it will work to solve, including: identifying secondary alloys with higher impurity tolerances without compromising performance; leveraging the advantages of digitization and robotics in sorting and disassembly; generating purity higher scrap flows; and improved communication between various parts of the aluminum industry. #Aluminum #mine #recycling #metal #scrapmetal #sustainable
