AIT says recycling aluminum from existing scrap has "huge" potential, requiring only 5% of the energy required to produce the primary material. RecAL is partly funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programmer, with additional support coming from 19 partner organizations from nine European countries. RecAL lists several challenges it will work to solve, including: identifying secondary alloys with higher impurity tolerances without compromising performance; leveraging the advantages of digitization and robotics in sorting and disassembly; generating purity higher scrap flows; and improved communication between various parts of the aluminum industry. #Aluminum #mine #recycling #metal #scrapmetal #sustainable

Last week Greeniron H2 AB’s Jan Boberg, presented project HANS at the Metallic Materials conference in Stockholm. HANS is a project that evaluates methods to recirculate residual products generated in foundry environments such as mill scale, filter dust and slag. The residuals represent approximately 5 % of material losses in foundries as well as steel plants. Finding methods to recycle those 5 % will have a great impact on resource efficiency and reduction of CO2-emissions. GreenIron's process is key to this approach, where the goal is to generate results that enable the foundry industry to take further steps towards more sustainable manufacturing. UK’s National Composites Centre NCC demonstrated how #FiberPatchPlacement can recycle up to 80% of dry fiber material from the earliest stages of high-performance #composite production in #aerospace manufacturing. Cevotec supported NCC in converting dry carbon #fiber waste into a precise patch laminate using our ARTIST STUDIO software for sustainable secondary feedstock to produce high-performance components. As aerospace shifts to higher production rates and improved sustainability, NCC anticipates a significant potential that #FPP can reduce manufacturing waste and automate the production of complex 3D shapes, multi-material laminates, and #lightweight reinforcements. We are looking forward to the next steps of the project, read more ➡ https://lnkd.in/eBVT36_i #ImproveBuy2Fly #sustainability #reclaimFibres #reduceWaste #MilestonesInComposites

State-funded collaborative project: "PARITY-4-REUSE" aims to revolutionize the recyclability of Type 4 Pressure Vessels 🌿 Currently, the production of Type 4 pressure tanks is based on a thermoset matrix, which is only very limitedly recyclable. However, the issue of "reusability of plastic products" is becoming increasingly important. Energy transition and reduced CO2 emissions #climateneutrality A consortium of industry and research has set itself this ambitious goal: to develop a PA 6-based Type 4 pressure tank that can be recycled and sustainably reintegrated into the material cycle. The project started on October 1, 2023, and will run for three years. Project coordination is handled by Elkamet Kunststofftechnik GmbH / Elkamet Rotomolding, supported by the engineering service provider ISATEC GmbH as a subcontractor. Additionally, the companies Roth Composite Machinery GmbH and Siebenwurst GmbH & Co. KG, as well as the Technische Universität München (Technical University of Munich) with the Chair of Carbon Composites, are involved. An associated partner is HYDAC Group Technologies GmbH. Parity-4-Reuse is funded within the framework of the National Innovation Program for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP II) with a total of €1,097,350.46 by the Bundesministerium für Digitales und Verkehr (BMDV). The funding directive is coordinated by NOW GmbH and implemented by Projektträger Jülich (PtJ). #ShapingTheFutureWithRotomolding #ElkametRotomolding #recycling #Type4pressurevessel #hydrogen

Including more recycled aluminium in industrial products will not only reduce the overall environmental impact of these processes, but will also make a strategically important contribution to Europe's aluminium supply. So how can we advance and optimise recycling practices and establish a robust circular materials system? The 4pm session in SALEMA's final event on 21 March will show how our partners from University of Liège and Groupe Comet have improved end-of-life aluminium scrap sorting with new algorithms directing the actions of a line of robots to select specific pieces from a conveyor belt. And we'll hear how to attain cleaner aluminium from scrap by removing contaminants in the molten state. Come and hear what Robert Baudinet, Gregory LEWIS, Prof. Karl Bernhard Friedrich of RWTH Aachen University and their session moderator Geoff Scamans of Innoval Technology & Brunel University London have to say on the subject. Just one of the topics of the day! Join them and all our guests and speakers; registration is open for 1 more week! 👉 Register and find all details via: https://lnkd.in/emviTKa6 #recycling #aluminium #scrapmetalrecycling #reducecarbonfootprint #sustainabilty #automotive #electricvehicles #futuremobility
