So, I entered the Startupper of the Year Challenge by TotalEnergies, and my project, EcoMental Circles, has made it to the next round!🎉... EcoMental Circles is dedicated to repurposing community spaces into sustainable mental health hubs in rural Zimbabwe. The idea is to use recycled materials and local resources to offer accessible mental health support while fostering a culture of recycling and community empowerment. This project is not just about mental health; it's about creating a sustainable, empowered, and resilient community. Mental health support is crucial, especially in underserved rural areas. By creating these hubs, I aim to provide accessible mental health resources and promote environmental sustainability through recycling. It’s a project close to my heart, combining my passion for mental health advocacy and my commitment to community development. We're one week out from Earth Day (next Monday 22nd April)🌏 Earth Day was established on April 22, 1970, by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. What began as a national teach-in on college campuses has grown into a global celebration, involving over 1 billion people in more than 193 countries each year. But for a lot of people, all Earth Day means is turning off your lights for an hour on the day or resharing a LinkedIn post and it quickly fades into obscurity. That's why econome has teamed up with VOLI to launch 🌏 Challenges for Good 🌏. Launching on Earth Day, we're challenging you to take a number of impactful actions that promote awareness around Earth Day and help to build positive environmental habits. ✨The best part? "Earth Day is important to us as it helps raise awareness to a topic that should be front of mind everyday however often life gets in the way, meaning we can forget how easy it is to make little changes and do our bit. As a company we wanted to show our employees how easy the small swaps can be and try bring the planet back to being top of mind, making us think in different ways about the little things we do everyday. 🎉 One Year at Carbonbase: A Journey of Growth, Gratitude, and Grit 🎉 Two weeks ago, I hit a significant milestone that, in the hustle and bustle of daily tasks, almost slipped by unnoticed - my first anniversary at Carbonbase. As I pause to reflect on the past twelve months, I'm filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and pride for the journey thus far. Joining Carbonbase was a leap into a realm of endless possibilities. From the get-go, it was clear I was not just starting a new job but embarking on a mission with a team as passionate and driven as I am. This year has been nothing short of transformative. I've had the privilege of contributing to projects that are not only challenging but truly impactful. Each task, each meeting, each deadline has been an opportunity for growth, pushing me to expand my horizons and step out of my comfort zone. I've learned that at Carbonbase, we don't just embrace change; we chase it. But what stands out the most is the culture of support and encouragement. I've been fortunate to be surrounded by mentors and peers who believe in the power of collaboration and who have been instrumental in my development. Their guidance has been my compass, steering me through challenges and celebrating the milestones with me. We had a great time at Purposefest. Too many highlights to mention but if I had to pick a couple... The charismatic Dale Vince; brutally honest, open and unashamedly himself, I think! EV airline coming, next year???!!! 😮 If you're unfamiliar, check out his work on renewable energy and sustainable business practices. He claims we already have the answers to much of the world's ills, if we would just open our minds to different ways. Triodos Bank - a brilliant panel (shame there wasn't more time!) that floated the ideas of keeping track of where you pension provider invests your money; perhaps it's not in the types of company's you'd be willing to invest in yourself? Amy Clarke highlighted the excellent 'Better Business Act'; which aims to make companies, legally responsible for their impact. (Rushed back to the office with that one, only to discover Core3 | B Corp™ are already a member 😆 😬) You don't need to be a B-Corp to benefit from the ideas and initiatives that swirl around the community.
