We’re thrilled that last week the USDA announced an investment of $1.7 billion for purchase of locally and regionally produced foods and domestically produced foods for emergency food assistance. This includes $500M in additional funding for the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program (LFPA), which has been supported by our grantee Wallace Center. Read about the impact this funding has had on eight states that have used LFPA money to support local food producers in their communities. https://lnkd.in/gf4CNJet #localfoodsystems #regionalfoodsystems #foodsystemschange

Happy one year anniversary of our President Rajiv J. Shah launching "Big Bets: How Large-Scale Change Really Happens"! The Big Bets community grew tremendously in only a year, and we're excited to see this movement grow even more.
One year ago today, my first book launched. Big Bets: How to Make Large-Scale Change Really Happen was published on October 10, 2023, at a moment when many wonder if it’s possible to solve our toughest challenge. The response to the book made clear that it is. On campuses, at companies, in bookstores, here, and elsewhere online. I met thousands of people like you who believe it’s realistic to be optimistic about our chance to make large-scale change. This movement is growing and gaining momentum with 4,000 of you from 150 countries have joined the Big Bets Community. We also launched a Big Bets Climate Fellowship, aimed at supporting leaders working to reverse the climate crisis and accelerate opportunities for the most vulnerable. Our first cohort was from Latin America and the Caribbean. Next year, we will support two Fellowships, one in the Asia Pacific and one in the United States. I hope you will consider joining our community and applying to this transformational fellowship.

The Executive Managing Director of CGIAR, the world’s largest publicly funded agriculture research system which emerged from convenings at #RFBellagio Center, once trained to be one of Morocco’s first female fighter pilots. The Rockefeller Foundation is proud to be the first philanthropy to join the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty. 🌎 In collaboration with the Global Alliance, a key initiative of Brazil's G20 presidency, we are committed to channeling resources towards transformative solutions like school meal programs – which provide essential nutrition and support local, regenerative agriculture, creating lasting economic and environmental benefits. We are deeply grateful for the leadership of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Global Alliance and President of Brazil, Carla Barroso Carneiro, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Brazil to the UN Rome-based Agencies, and Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the FAO, in this critical effort. With the School Meals Coalition and G20 Summit on the horizon, we urge other philanthropies to join this global movement. By working together, we can ensure that nutritious, sustainable meals reach those who need them most while building a greener future for all. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eaquccan

At #AsiaXchange, we brought together partners, grantees, and stakeholders to discuss ways we can advance Asia's green growth and fortify the region's resilience against climate change. To do so, we need to support people-centered efforts that can impact frontline communities in the region. That's why today we announced that the next cohort of the Big Bets Climate Fellowship will be in the Asia Pacific. This new cohort will work on innovative solutions that advance the region's resilience against climate change. To learn more and be part of the community, visit: https://lnkd.in/ecPMHshH

During #ClimateWeekNYC, The Rockefeller Foundation, The Nature Conservancy and Salesforce hosted leaders from the corporate and philanthropic sectors, project developers, and investors to explore how carbon projects can and are creating positive outcomes for people and nature. American Forests, Fundação SOS Mata Atlântica, the National Indian Carbon Coalition, and The Nature Conservancy shared successes and opportunities for collaboration to advance a global vision for high-quality nature and carbon portfolios. By centering community voices and working across sectors, we can help the system evolve to better capture the ecosystem value that nature provides. Responsible for a third of global greenhouse gas emissions, the impact of our food systems is one of the world’s biggest environmental challenges. This #UNGA79, we put global food systems on the agenda to ensure that we can meet the Paris Climate Agreement. By bringing together investors, producers, donors, governments, and philanthropists, we can accelerate food systems transformation to be regenerative and fight climate change. #UNGAxRF #ClimateWeekNYC

Yesterday we convened a pivotal event co-hosted with the Global Alliance for the Future of Food calling for partners to coordinate resources and investments that fuel regenerative and agroecological transitions. 🌾♻️🌿 The event brought together philanthropic, public, and private partners committed to improving our planet through long-term food systems transformation. With a focus on Brazil, Asia, East Africa, and the Midwest US, panelists and speakers highlighted that the health of our farmers, communities, and planet depends on our actions today. RF EVP Elizabeth Yee underscored the need for this transition: "The regenerative transformation is not the easy choice but it is the right one. It's the choice for farmers and their families. It's the choice for the most disadvantaged consumers, like the students who rely on school meals. And it's the choice for the health of our planet." By transitioning to regenerative agricultural systems, we can significantly enhance lives, safeguard biodiversity, and stabilize our climate.
