Yesterday, I presented at the 2024 Public Sector Connect Data & AI conference. I had an incredible time, both during my talk and in answering questions throughout the rest of the day. Here are my key takeaways. The day had some truly fascinating and insightful speakers, thank you all for taking the time to share your expertise with us.  Ming Tang, Mark Durkee, Philip Orumwense CBE, Beata Lisowska, Matt F., Sarah Williams, Matt Armstrong-Barnes, Dr. Jacqui Taylor, Tom Christian, Owen Hodge, Dave Topping It is all too easy these days for data teams to get swept up in the hype around Generative AI tools. As a Data Scientist still very much involved in implementing these technologies, it was incredibly reassuring to listen to a room of experts and thought leaders who clearly understand what that truly entails. There was an overwhelming desire to ensure AI is used responsibly, rather than being thrown into the tech stack on a whim. Speaking with people after my talk, there was a lot of interest in Made Techs' focus on upskilling the teams we work with. These new technologies have a massive learning curve, but also the potential to completely change the way teams work. Having the opportunity to teach others how to utilise AI to their benefit is a real perk of my job. Generative AI represents a real step change in technology. Some suggest the transformer architecture is our centuries steam loom. I think they might be right, but we are at the start of a long road. It was incredible to hear about the innovation happening in local and central govt - teams working tirelessly to harness AI’s potential. My summary of the McKinsey webinar "Never just tech: unlocking the full value of GenAI".   the #economicPotential of genAI is HUGE: $4.4 trillion ANNUALLY for the global economy   McKinsey uses a #4C motto to categorize AI use cases: #Concision #Customer Engagement #Coding #Creative content   Of the 6 #capabilities "that matter most" - strategic roadmap, talent, operating model, technology, data, adoption, and scale. #Scaling and #scalability were presented as the most pressing needs to be addressed to successfully leverage genAI.   To reap the full #benefits of genAI, companies will need to "rewire their business" along 6 pathways: 1️⃣ Selecting the right genAI pilots that drive competitive advantage 2️⃣ Skill up talent in the right areas 3️⃣ Establish standards through a centralized team 4️⃣ Build trust among employees 5️⃣ Build an architecture that promotes reusability and scalability 6️⃣ Ensure data quality - keep an eye on unstructured data   In general, I'd say it was 30 minutes well spent with 2 senior McKinsey consultants with opportunities for expanding your vocabulary ("pilot purgatory"; and the McKinsey #taker #shaker #maker 3level categorization of AI adopters)  https://lnkd.in/dcKjYihN
