For 12 consecutive seasons, Hospiten has been the official medical service provider for the club, playing a crucial role in their participation in both Liga Endesa and the Basketball Champions League. This year's agreement includes the presence of the Hospiten logo not only on the uniforms of the top team in Liga Endesa but also on the uniforms of the newly promoted reserve team in Tercera FEB. Juan José Hernández Rubio, President of Hospiten, commented during the signing, "This agreement reaffirms our commitment to sports, healthy living, and society as a whole." Félix Hernández, President of La Laguna Tenerife, also praised the partnership, saying, "We have taken another step forward by integrating Hospiten into our uniforms." Starting August 16, the team's players will undergo pre-season medical examinations at Hospiten Rambla University Hospital. This hospital boasts a significant unit specializing in sports traumatology and cardiology, providing essential support throughout the season for treatment and prevention of injuries. Hospiten operates 20 medical centers across Spain (Canary Islands, Málaga, Cádiz, and Madrid), the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica, and Panama, reinforcing its reputation for high-quality healthcare. From a sports marketing perspective, this 12-season-long partnership is highly effective. Displaying the Hospiten logo on La Laguna Tenerife's uniforms ensures widespread exposure during matches. High-viewership platforms such as Liga Endesa and the Basketball Champions League significantly boost Hospiten's brand recognition. Many local structures can generate pain, and to further complicate matters, there are a number of structures that can refer pain into this region.   Perhaps nowhere else in the body is there, currently, a wider gap between the teachings of clinical practice and scientific fact. The Sporting Hip & Groin, is our attempt to blend the latest research, the opinion of experts in the field, with our own personal experience of current clinical concepts; to marry the art and science of management together in a clear and understandable way.   The original Sporting Hip & Groin course was first established in 2004, and has been delivered to over 3000 therapists in the UK, as well as internationally. The course covers a collection of published research articles (>750) and ideas brought together by the teachings of many leading clinicians we have come into contact with over the years. As team physician at Almere City FC I am passionate about exploring football medicine's intricacies. Constantly uncovering factors vital for our players' health, our goal is to optimize their performance on the pitch. Our first discussion tackles head impacts in football - a prevalent concern stemming from aerial duels causing concussions among players. In the Netherlands alone, there have been several collisions during the first half of the 2023-2024 season, in one recent case leading to unconsciousness and a severe concussion of a goalkeeper leading to hospital admission. In other sports, like rugby, multiple studies highlight higher risks of neurological diseases and brain impairments among former professional rugby players. Despite this extensive research, investigations into football's long-term head impact consequences remain limited. Working with a Sports 🏀 Chiropractor in High Level Sports As staffs in high level sport grow, there are increased opportunities for different types of practitioners to join and help serve the athletes. Typically, this model will have a physician (external) or an AT/PT/CSCS (internal) serve as the leaders. Adding a Chiropractor to the staff part-time may be the next steps to help with adjustments, manual therapy, rehab, etc. The question becomes, what is a sports chiropractor and how do we find a good one?? Many people do not know that Chiros can complete residencies and fellowships like PTs/Physicians can, just called different names. For example, in Sports Medicine: 1. CCSP (Certified Chiropractic Sports Practitioner) —Resident Level— 2. DABCSP (Diplomate of the American Board of Chiropractic Sports Physicians) —Fellowship Level— In Rehab: 1. DACRB (Diplomate of the Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board) —Residency + Fellowship— To be clear, if you are looking for a Chiropractor to only perform adjustments, then post-graduate training likely isn’t as important. However, if the goal is: 1. add a practitioner that understands manual therapy, taping, emergency procedures, concussions, etc…then a sports medicine Chiro is the wave. 2. Add a practitioner to assist with the rehab and return to play process at all levels…then a rehab Chiro is the wave. 🔑 As we all know, credentials aren’t everything and this is only one slice of what makes a Sports Chiropractor competent, but hope this helps. The availability of free healthcare at the Olympic Village highlights the shortcomings of the American healthcare system. Interestingly, this tradition of providing free medical services to athletes dates back to the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and will continue when the Games return to LA in 2028. The International Olympic Committee covers the cost of health services for Olympic athletes. This practice underscores an important lesson we learned during the COVID-19 pandemic: the health of all individuals is interconnected. When everyone around us has access to quality healthcare, they are more likely to reach their full potential as productive members of society, which in turn benefits us all. Universal access to healthcare can lead to a more productive society This Olympic tradition serves as a reminder of the potential benefits of a more inclusive healthcare system, where preventive care and essential medical services are accessible to all.
