In 2022, Canadian footwear brand ALDO Group introduced Pillow Walk, a proprietary #comfort technology for its shoes. Originally launched in a limited number of styles, Pillow Walk is now featured in about 75% of Aldo’s men’s and women’s shoes. Incorporating dual-density foam, the Pillow Walk technology is designed to enhance impact absorption, rebound response, stability and support when walking, with a molded sock foam providing extra padding at the ball and heel of the foot. According to #Aldo, its incorporation of higher-density polyurethane and soft memory foam eliminates the break-in period for new #shoes. In this piece by Zofia Zwieglinska, we speak to Daianara Grullon AMALFITANO.

India's Footwear Sizing System is Getting an Overhaul! 👟 India's current shoe sizing system is based on a mix of European and US sizing. However, a new shoe sizing system called Bha is being proposed for India to provide a more accurate and consistent fit for the Indian population. India boasts a massive population, making it the world's largest footwear market and manufacturer, with the average person owning 1.5 pairs of shoes. However, a concerning trend is the high return rate of online footwear purchases, estimated at around 50%. This suggests a significant issue with current sizing systems. Bha, designed specifically for Indian feet, has the potential to provide a better fit and comfort for nearly 85% of the population. This would be a win-win situation for both consumers and manufacturers. Here’s a quick overview of Bha: 1. Based on foot size, not region: Bha ditches the current system that varies by region and provides a more accurate and consistent fit for everyone in India. 2. Wider and more comfortable: Bha will be designed to accommodate the wider shape of Indian feet better, improving comfort. 3. Eight sizes for all: The system will have eight sizes ranging from infants to adults, catering to everyone's needs instead of 10 as per the current system. Given Bha's significant changes from existing systems, stakeholders recommend a trial phase. Users would be provided with Bha-sized footwear for testing and feedback. This crucial step will ensure a smooth transition to the new system, expected to be implemented by 2025. #Footwear #Bha

After working for a decade in the #footwear and accessories industry, I find the insights from #AlixPartners' Spring 2024 Footwear Survey deeply resonant. The report highlights #consumer shifts towards more frequent purchases at lower price points, challenged brand loyalty due to inventory and pricing issues. It underscores operational strategies for addressing these trends, like the pivotal role of AI in inventory optimization and rethinking packaging to cut costs and enhance sustainability efforts. This analysis offers valuable perspectives for industry stakeholders aiming to navigate the evolving consumer landscape effectively.
