Last month in #Uganda 🇺🇬, we held a Courier’s Week, where over 100 couriers gathered for trainings on:
🦺Road Safety by SafeBoda
🫱🏼🫲🏾Customer Service by KFC
💰and Financial Literacy by MTN
In addition to the training, we launched a new partnership with Zembo to provide #couriers with access to affordable electric motorcycles in Uganda. Regardless of the city, the country, or the frequency of connecting to the #Glovoapp, we organize events like these because we believe that couriers should have the opportunity to upskill with different platforms, courses, and training.
A huge congrats to everyone who made this event possible! 🎉

TAXI HAILING BUSINESS IN NIGERIA
The taxi hailing business in Nigeria presents a promising prospect, with a growing demand for convenient and affordable transportation solutions. With a well-established market presence, companies like Uber and Bolt have already demonstrated profitability, with ridership numbers increasing steadily. However, to ensure sustainability, it's crucial to address local challenges such as infrastructure, regulatory framework, and competition from traditional taxi operators. Additionally, companies must invest in reliable logistics, secure payment systems, and driver incentives to maintain a strong market presence.

The logistics masterclass for Kenya - not officially certified 🚛
You want to send something short distance - maybe within #Nairobi? You are moving and need a solid transportation option? You have a business and need to deliver anything inside a short distance?
If this is the case you will literally always use a boda. The little motorcycles are the working bees in cities and villages in Kenya. 🐝
They are used for passenger transport especially during peak hours to avoid traffic jams, food deliveries from Uber Eats or Bolt Foods or any other operator and for short distance transportation from a letter to a couch or more.
For me this is absolutely insane. But it works. Same day delivery no problem as the bodas are going 365/366 days a year 24 hours per day. Also from my point of view why Amazon does not function in a country like Kenya. It would need to adapt the logistics.
Do you think bodas are an effective transportation option? What would you wish to improve? One thing I would love to mention is security. The obligation to wear a helmet for example and to secure the loading (if even possible).

Is this Africa’s most efficient transport?
🇷🇼🇺🇬 Recently, I went to Rwanda and Uganda. In both cities and the countryside, I noticed cyclists and motorcyclists carrying passengers on their back. This is called a Bodaboda.
It’s an easy way to get from where you are to where you want to go. It’s easy to use: there are designated pick-up zones everywhere. Just show where you are going, negotiate the price and hop on. The bikes even come with padded seats!
The Bodabodas are a growing business and under on-going regulation. To make is safer, Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, has the agreed on the following regulation:
- All drivers must be registered in a driver cooperative.
- All motorcycles are required to have a GPS.
- All passengers are required to wear a helmet.
I don’t believe we will see Bodabodas soon in Northern Europe. The reasons to this are:
🫂The level of intimacy with unknown people that this mode of transport requires.
❄️ Winter seasons and rain make this way of travelling less attractive at parts of the year.
🛴 The gap that Bodabodas fill in Rwanda and Uganda are filled by e-scooters here – and they’re less intimate as you are alone on the e-scooter.
As digital technology keeps developing, it will be exciting to see the development of the Bodaboda industry and how it will be affected by, and affect both environment issues and development of cities. Probably the future of the Bodaboda will be close to an Uber or Bolt-solution with a digital platform to make travelling even easier.
🚌 Safiri, meaning "travel" in Swahili, is transforming the Tanzanian transport system. Their solution revolutionizes ticket booking and parcel tracking, empowering businesses and communities by:
✅ Expanding customer reach: Safiri's user-friendly digital platform attracts new customers, helping transportation businesses increase their revenue streams by an average of 15%. This strengthens their financial position and fuels their ability to contribute to the local economy.
✅ Bridging the connectivity gap: Safiri is bridging the gap between communities and essential services by making transport information like schedules and routes readily accessible online.
✅ Financial inclusion: Safiri promotes financial inclusion by providing cashless payment options and facilitating access to affordable transportation for everyone.
Through our Smart Asset Financing model, we are financing Safiri's productive assets, such as POS devices. These assets generate valuable data on location, usage, and transactions, offering insights into Safiri's growth.

Building the operating system and financial infrastructure for commercial logistics fleet operators in Africa, empowering them with the tools and credit to achieve their wildest business ambitions!
I have always had this wild ambition that by 2030, 7 out of every 10 logistics and commercial vehicles on Nigerian roads would be running on our solution.
I would be lying if I told you I completely believed this ambition myself or if I was absolutely sure how we'd get there, but I kind of knew it was possible.
While that "delulu" marinated in my head, we launched truQ as a third-party logistics platform after we had run on Excel for about 2 years. We would then go on to roll out Siju by truQ to solve the process and operational issues we were seeing our customers struggle with, which was frustrating the efficiency of their fulfillment and that of the drivers they were connecting with on truQ.
All of this has now led us to a juncture where the efficiency of drivers running on truQ is limited by the inherent limitations of the average commercial fleet vehicle owner, driver, or operator out there capping the growth of our existent business and capabilities of our customers, a wicked age-long problem and complication bigger than anything we had initially set out to solve.
The original idea as far as the solution to this complication is concerned came from a member of the team during one of our Monday meetings, she had spent the weekend creating a deck to deliver her idea, one that would solve forever this age-long struggle for millions of commercial fleet operators across the continent, empowered to be efficient to themselves, to us and the larger market they service.
We had taken her idea, refined it, created a focus group of drivers running on and off truQ and rolled out to them a beta with major validations over the past couple of months.
DriveHub by truQ is coming! Watch this space!
For the average commercial fleet vehicle owner, driver, or operator in Africa today, it's an endless daily struggle to be fulfilled at the job they love doing and to be efficient in the service of their customers.
The reality of payment cycles and delays, and the frustrating struggle with critical operating expenses have forced the average operator to settle helplessly with 56% downtime each month - unfulfilled in their hustle and underutilized (or even completely unavailable) to their customers.
It is for these 28 million commercial fleet operators across Africa, especially the 6.7 million of them in Nigeria that we are building DriveHub by truQ!
Watch this space!
