When I was little, I wanted to be an artist. Growing up, and after attending Art College my dream didn’t seem practical and grounded, which is why I chose a more 'accepted' profession, becoming a Dispensing Optician and back-burnered it. But even though I was doing well in my profession, managing two branches of a high street opticians and making a living, my dream kept growing so I gradually started pursuing it on the side. Then a strange thing happened… Every time I felt really good about being creative, I’d put up an imaginary roadblock in my own path. Like, I had to learn more, do more, or be 1000x better just to experience the joy this simple dream gave me. Looking back, I made it nearly impossible to reach it. I thought it – or I – wasn’t enough. Since then, I have retrained and built my own wellness and vocational training business and I’ve learned that simple is more than 'good enough'. It’s the key to joy and happiness in business and in life. Be thankful for simple pleasures, simple goals, simple steps. When things start getting complicated, it usually means something’s off. Listen to your instincts, get back to your core, do whatever you need to do to find your SIMPLE again. The easy way is always the 'right' way…and a million times more rewarding. I am sitting in bed and relaxing this Saturday. It got me thinking back to the first job I applied to go into supervision for, Whataburger. Yup, I was a supervisor at Whataburger at the tender age of 16. One of the first to do it in my district area. There was one reason why I did this and one reason only: I was confident as heck about my ability to lead! Confidence is often seen as an innate trait – you either have it or you don't. But the truth is that confidence is a skill that can be developed and nurtured over time. For me, this started when I would ask my mom for more money or time on the phone with friends. I knew how to maneuver my confidence to persuade her 😂 . So as the young girl in me remembers stepping out and applying for that role no one under 18 ever got, I go back to thinking about your teams. When employees lack confidence, it can hold them back from taking on new challenges, sharing ideas, and reaching their full potential. In fact, a lack of confidence is one of the top reasons why employees hold back from applying for promotions or taking on leadership roles. We asked Amber a few questions to reflect on her time at Uncommon Bold so far, and these were their responses: (1) What has been your favorite part of working at Uncommon Bold?  - I love working with a team full of amazing women who are supportive and genuine. My teammates feel like family and there’s a sense of camaraderie that makes every day enjoyable! (2) What do you feel has been your biggest accomplishment thus far?  - My proudest accomplishment with UB has probably been leading the project management for Artists Remaking Medicine. From sourcing collaborators to coordinating between dozens of contributors to developing content for the book, I had the opportunity to showcase my creative side and simultaneously leverage my management skills in a valuable way. It was incredibly rewarding to participate in all of the strategic planning and back-end logistics that ultimately led to the creation of a beautiful (and bestselling) book! (3) What advice would you give yourself one year ago?  - Prioritize work-life balance. When you make self-care a ritual, you thrive both in out of the office.

It's the longest day of the year, summer is (sort of) here, and we're already halfway through 2024. 😌 When things are moving so fast it can sometimes be hard to acknowledge and appreciate everything you've achieved so far.
