Summer has arrived, and it's not just the temperature that's heating up. Imagine for a moment the hidden opportunities that summer brings to professionals across industries. While many see it as a time to slow down, I argue it's the perfect season to accelerate. Summer is synonymous with innovation. It's when the world seems to take a collective breath, giving us space to think outside the box. This is the time to explore new projects, dive into learning new skills, or even reach out to potential mentors. Think about it. The relaxed atmosphere, the longer days - they all contribute to a more open, creative mindset. It's an ideal setting for brainstorming sessions that could lead to the next big breakthrough in your career. But summer also teaches us the importance of balance. It reminds us that taking time to recharge is not lost time but an investment in our future productivity and well-being. So, as the sun shines brighter, let's not forget the lessons and opportunities it brings to our professional lives. Let's use this season to grow, innovate, and perhaps, take a well-deserved break. If Don Draper got your promotion… He’d run for the hills. Your big job is no Madmen fantasy, is it? You’re a top dog, but there are no impromptu afternoons off, No long extravagant lunches, Or comfy office sofas for afternoon naps. Instead, it’s open plan, or a cupboard pretending to be a private office. You’re on planes so often that you forget what home looks like. Lunch is too often at 3 PM, loaded with sugar. You barely make it to the loo twice a day. That's messed up! You’re the boss, so why are you hustling like a 20-year-old intern? More responsibilities should mean more freedom. More flexibility. Not to be a run-down version of a boss. Losing hair, gaining weight, being low in energy, and self-sacrificing. Blaming the region, your industry, impossible deadlines and insane KPIs, is just avoiding dealing. Fact is you create your reality, You could be happy in this role, Give it a shot. Take action. Be creative. Break the pattern.

For our next intern spotlight, we are excited to introduce Hunter Lawson, an incoming senior at Lehigh University majoring in Finance. This summer, Hunter is bringing his talent and passion to our Listed Real Estate Securities team. He is eager to dive into the world of real estate, and we are thrilled to have him on board! Continue reading below to learn more about Hunter: 1. What is the best piece of professional advice you have ever received? I had a professor tell me to “go and get anything you want in your career—whether that be a job, promotion, opportunity, etc.” You must get it yourself because nobody is going to do it for you. Don’t be afraid to ask for things because, ultimately, the worst thing that can happen is that you get a “no.” 2. What inspired you to pursue a career in your current field of study? I realized I wanted to pursue a career in finance, specifically the public side, when I was 16 or 17 years old. I was stuck in my house during quarantine and found myself consuming everything I could about stocks and the market. I read books and watched a ton of YouTube videos every day. It felt like a newfound passion, and I’m so glad I chose this as my area of focus. 3. If you could share some advice with your younger self, what would it be? I would tell my younger self that if something scares you, do it and keep a brave face. A lot of things in your life are not going to be easy or comfortable, but the only way you can get better is to do things that scare you and to stay positive. 4. As a child, what career did you want to have when you “grew up?” Growing up, I always wanted to be a marine biologist. I still find it to be an interesting career and I used to think it would be so cool to study the ocean and the life within it. However, I soon realized that I didn’t like biology and that I have a huge fear of sharks. 5. If you could try something knowing you would not fail, what would it be? I probably would want to go to the Moon or Mars. I don’t have a big interest in space, but seeing either of the two would be something I couldn’t turn down if it were a guaranteed success.  #CenterSquare #SummerInternship #Spotlight
