Congratulations to PIE on the launch of the “Public Financing in Education Report 2022-23”! This critical report sheds light on the urgent need for reform, especially with public spending on education at just 1.5% of GDP—well below the 4% international benchmark. The breakdown of spending, with 88% going to salaries and only 12% for development, highlights the need to rethink budget allocations to address the 26.2 million out-of-school children, particularly in KP and Balochistan. Let’s continue pushing for financing education in ways that truly prioritise our children's future.

President Tinubu budgeted 3.5 trillion naira for education in the 49.7 trillion naira appropriation for year 2025. This is abysmal! The percentage of 3.5 trillion from 49.7 trillion is just 7.08%, which is far below the UNESCO benchmark of 26%. A huge deficit of 18.92%! We are not ready to build a nation. Congratulations Pakistan Institute of Education - PIE Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training for an important report informing #EducationReforms. It educates citizens to understand complexities of 'who funds what, where and how' in the federation! It covers data trends up to Fiscal Year 2022-23 and dipping GDP expenditure to 1.5%! The 2 reports including the The World Bank #DARE report by Juan D. Barón et.al analysing data up to FY 2019-20 in #spendbetterspendmore are excellent. WB report has Five Key Messages on education spending: the need for (1) adequacy, (2) efficiency, (3) equity in spending; (4) improved management and coordination; and (5) greater involvement by parents and civil society. Both reports are sadly complacent towards early years in tracking and recommendations for #PrePrimary. Both must demand separation of Pre-Primary from Primary budgets if we want 2 focus on #FoundationalInvestments #EarlyYearsMatter. #PrePrimaryFinancing is critical if we want to address #OOSC #FLN #Equity #Gender #RightAgeEnrolment. Demand separate #FunctionalClassification of #PrePrimary and #Primary Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi (ITA) #ASERPakistan

Education plays a critical role in the healthy development of individuals, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to society. This, in turn, enhances a nation's ability to address its challenges and create better living conditions for its people. While enrollment rates in Ethiopia have improved, the quality of education remains a priority. There are encouraging indications that the government is working through initiatives like the Education Sector Development Plan (ESDP) and the General Education Quality Improvement Programme (GEQIP). On this International Day of Education, I want to highlight on how crucial teachers are for the improvement of education and the roles they play for its improvement. Teachers are the foundation of a strong education system. Our teachers need:- - Competitive salaries - Comprehensive benefits, and - Access to ongoing training and development opportunities #InternationaldayofEducation #TeachersMatter #InvestInTeachers #QualityEducation #EthiopiaEducation #EducationForAll #EducateWomen #EducationForChange #EducationForDisplaced #RebuildLives #WarAndEducation

Factors contribute to both the success of students and the overall improvement of educational institutions: 1. Qualified Teachers 2. Effective Curriculum 3. Adequate Learning Resources 4. Supportive Learning Environment 5. Parental and Community Involvement 6. Equity and Accessibility These factors together ensure that education is meaningful, impactful, and capable of preparing students for the future. But My country, Ethiopia, lacks many of these essential factors, which are necessary to ensure quality education.

If I were the Minister of Education in Nigeria, I would pursue these 7 themes: 1. Comprehensive review of the curriculum across all level – primary, secondary and tertiary; and the digitization of learning. Some subjects, courses and concepts are obsolete. 2. Bring back the community system of education.Community schools for children between ages 5-11 for primary education. This can be achieved by working with local governments. 3. Pursue compulsory and free basic education (primary and secondary) for all children. Children of public office holders must attend government-owned schools till secondary level 4. Pursue public-private partnerships for model/unity colleges and international collaborations for non-model colleges. India has a good template on this. 5. Give tertiary institutions (polytechnics and universities) autonomy and revamp the vocational/technical institutions.leadership in universities must never be a political appointment but by character, competence and capacity. 6. A complete overhaul of the education agencies and examination boards. Cancel Post-UTME (UTME is sufficient) and cancel NYSC (it’s pure waste of funds). 7. Make the teaching profession highly attractive. Finland has a strategic template on this. It’s really easier said than done #parents #parentslife #school #education #educational #educationmatters #teachers #teachersupportteachers #teachersforteachers #teachershelpteachers #teachersinspireteachers #learning #learninganddevelopment #educationfirst #educationispower #parentsupport

Points 1, 3 and 7 … very germane! We must get it right with education in Nigeria. Education still remains the bedrock for social and economic development of any nation. Excellence, not mediocrity must be achieved in the education sector.
