Hi everyone, This week, I want to delve into the fascinating world of AI and its potential impact on the software development landscape. Buckle up, because we're going to explore Devin, touted as the world's first AI software engineer! Developed by Cognition Labs, Devin is more than just a fancy code completion tool. This AI is designed to tackle entire software development projects, from grasping your initial concept to delivering a finished product. Imagine outlining your software vision in plain English, and Devin takes care of the rest – writing code, building functionalities, and even deploying the app! Sounds like science fiction, right? Well, Devin's capabilities are generating a lot of buzz. Here's what makes this AI so groundbreaking: End-to-End Development: Unlike traditional coding assistants, Devin can handle the entire software development lifecycle. It can translate your ideas into code, identify and fix errors, and even learn from past projects to improve its efficiency. Natural Language Processing: Devin understands human language! You can describe your software needs in plain English, eliminating the need for complex coding knowledge. This opens doors for non-programmers to participate in the software creation process. Efficiency and Innovation: Imagine the time saved by delegating repetitive coding tasks to Devin. This frees up human engineers to focus on higher-level tasks like design, innovation, and tackling complex problems. But is Devin here to steal our jobs? While some may fear AI replacing software engineers, I believe it's more likely to be a collaborative future. Devin can be a powerful tool, automating mundane tasks and allowing human engineers to focus on creative problem-solving and strategic thinking. The Road Ahead Devin's development is a significant leap forward in AI-powered software engineering. However, it's important to remember that it's still early days. Challenges like ethical considerations, potential biases in AI decision-making, and the need for human oversight remain. Here is the official link of the demo: https://lnkd.in/gKFXy4Pc What do you think? Will AI like Devin revolutionize software development? Will it complement human engineers or replace them altogether? Share your thoughts in the comments below, and let's keep the conversation going!

📣 After a talk the other day two people in the audience asked what I thought about the fact that their children were learning to code from an early age. 🤶 Both mothers weren't too jazzed about it, and were worried that thanks to AI it might be worth a lot less by the time their children enter the workforce. 🤖 It seems their fears are already being realised and yesterday, Cognition, a recently formed AI startup backed by Peter Thiel, announced a fully autonomous AI software engineer called “Devin”. 📓 So does this make coding obsolete? It's a tough question, and as I told them at the time perhaps it will be best to begin to think about coding as more akin to how and why we learn Latin today. 📖 In this sense, it may not be as essential as it is currently but instead evolve into more of a nice to have — becoming something that augments our understanding of other tools and languages but is perhaps not necessary for learning how to use these tools completely. ❓ What do we think? Is coding becoming obsolete before our eyes? Where will it be when those audience members' children enter the workforce in 20 years time? Interesting times... 🔥 Notwithstanding the question — autonomous agents were slap bang in the middle of the ACQUAINTED trend report. Link in the comments.

Are you called "non-technical"? Should you learn to code? AI is going to do it for you soon anyway... I've seen more demos of AI software than I can count. Devin, GPT-Engineer, AutoGPT. The list goes on, and every month their capabilities keep improving. Those utilising them get a significant benefit, being able to code significantly faster and automate the mundane tasks. I've even had a friend of mine at a large tech company mention that on his team, the best junior SWEs are the ones that use the fastest LLM. I still think it's worth to download VSCode and start hitting that terminal commands yourself. Whether there is going to be a fully-automated AI SWE or not, by learning programming yourself right now you can stay on top of this incoming change and see the evolution of state-of-the-art agents. You also get to see how much of the more abstract high-level thinking AI cannot do- and how you can set up your workflow to produce better quality code. AI will also help you get unstuck when you face an error. Honestly, its hard to find a more patient teacher for your first coding lessons. When I was learning how to code, it took a long time until I've actually shipped a working product- now, with AI and boilerplates, you can start hitting your first revenue in under a week. So, don't wait until another company releases the perfect AI copilot. Try to ship your first project now- and let me know when you do I can add it to our directory of verified tools at ControlAI. #tech #coding #AIagents https://lnkd.in/diKbW795

Meet one of my favorite companies that's exploding in growth and bold in their thinking. Every crazy idea we pitch them is met with curiosity and even more crazy ideation. LOVE IT. Codeium has reached a new breakthrough in reasoning today with the launch of Cortex, a new AI-powered coding engine that processes 100M lines of code in seconds! We're seeing a shift in the industry from AI copilots to advanced reasoning technology to achieve human-level intelligence, and Cortex represents a major leap toward that. Forbes has the whole story story: https://lnkd.in/dEWrb6QQ Congrats, Codeium team! cc: Varun Mohan, Douglas Chen, Anshul Ramachandran
