As #NationalPayrollWeek concludes, I'm sure it's not only my LinkedIn feed which has been full of posts by colleagues and fellow payroll professionals about the important work we are responsible for is, and how payroll is far from the magical red button. One of the key takeaways I have seen is the breadth of the industry, with fantastic posts from those completing In House payrolls to the different experiences of those in bureau environments. There have also been great posts about the different complexities that payroll experts are now responsible for; from National Minimum Wage interactions to Global Mobility, ESPP & Shares to the reporting of Benefits in Kind, as well as the importance of our reporting requirements such as Gender Pay Gap Reporting, Pension compliance and the trusty RTI submissions. Jane Burge has brilliantly documented the evolution of payroll legislation (starting in ancient times) and I think as #NPW ends, it is certainly worth considering how wide ranging the #Payroll industry is now, and how much expertise is required to ensure that such an important function continues to run smoothly.
