What is the Cost-Of-Living Adjustment (COLA) increase for 2025? The projected COLA for 2025 is 2.57%. The projection is based on the July Consumer Price Index (CPI) numbers, which is the first of three sets of numbers the SSA will use to determine the 2025 COLA. We will have to wait until October to find out what the final COLA for 2025 will be. For 2024, the Social Security COLA was 3.2%. There is no legal requirement for employers to provide cost-of-living adjustments. However, employees who are part of a union may have COLA pay as a part of their contract. COLA can be put into payroll system without an issue. Department heads need to turn in evaluations on a timely basis. A lot of times employees blame payroll for not getting there money on a timely basis.

Do you run a company in the catering and service industry? Are you aware of the upcoming changes to legislation about tips and what that means for your business? Tips are earned by your employees for service that customers think is good enough to be monetarily rewarded. The government is bringing new legislation into effect on 1st October that sees 100% of the tips a business collects from customers going to its employees. So what does this mean for businesses? The aim of the legislation is on "fairness and transparency". • Fairness: how will you ensure all workers get a fair share of the tips? Will it be based on hours worked, or influenced by more factors such as performance, length of service and job role? • Transparency: Your records need to be accessible to employees if they request them and their pay slips should distinguish tips as separate from their wage. Some things to also consider: 1. Tips must not supplement part of an employee’s wage; i.e. they need to be on NMW before tips are added. 2. Businesses must have a written policy re tips, gratuities, service charges & tronc and how any and all of these are utilised within the business. 3. Records of tips must be kept for 3 years from the date the tip is received from a customer, no matter what source. 4. Cash tips must be pooled, banked and distributed via payroll – avoid handing out cash tips after a shift and get rid of the tips jar on the counter if it isn’t being processed through payroll.
