Kartik shares an invaluable advice he learnt from his wife, and we couldn't agree more. Kartik Vijay, a household name among the best of the cinematographers in the industry today, reminds the artist in us that how we are on our good days doesn't matter so much as how we choose to be on our bad days. This little practice of consistency and patience stays integral not only for aspiring filmmakers but for the Top 1% alike. Some of Kartik's notable works include feature films like Do Aur Do Pyaar (2024), The Garden of Evening Mists (2019), Manto (2018) and Matru ki Bijlee ka Mandola (2013). I saw '12th Fail' again. Twice in 3 days. I think '12th Fail' is our entry at the Oscars. The Film ticks all the boxes, in my view: - A story eminently worth telling. - Transports you to a certain time and place. - Is elevating. And then the bare minimum: - Pitch perfect casting. - Locations as real as they can get Makes one realise locations are almost as critical as casting. - Great performances, great music, great cinematography, great everything. I think one big decision was to tell the story in a linear fashion, and resist the temptation to intercut between past and present, multiple storylines, or to try some other screenplay jugglery. What do you think? #12thfail #suureshspeaks

#HandlingtheUndead is one of my favorite horror/ drama films this year. Great storytelling that explores human grief, loss, and morality. The bleak and coldness in the cinematography is another great character in this film. Hi again! 👋🏾 Back with another lovely blog for GreenSlate, in honor of #womenshistorymonth. 'Past Lives' is easily in my top 5 films for this year's award season, mainly due to first-time director Celine Song's understated storytelling and dedication to realism. Read the blog to learn more about Song's unique approach to filmmaking - and what sets her apart from other Hollywood greats. #oscars #pastlives #filmmakers A24
Happy #internationalwomensday2024! This #WomensHistoryMonth we're shining a spotlight on breakthrough director of A24's award winning, Best Picture Oscar-nominated "Past Lives" Celine Song. Mariah Flores writes, "First-time director Celine Song helms this testament to thoughtful, relatable storytelling, pulling from her own fateful life experiences to direct the semi-autobiographical tale. With such careful attention to detail, from casting down to stark encapsulations of city settings through crisp cinematography (the Brooklyn waterfront has never seemed more romantic), it’s hard to believe this is Song’s first film." #filmmaking #film #oscars2024

My goal is comprehensive, scientifically accurate, K-12 sexual education in ALL public schools. (Recruiters note that I have not worked in IT Security for more than a decade & have no interest in returning to it.)
As a High-Control survivor, I tend to watch a lot of documentaries and docuseries on cults. Initially it helped me to put my own experiences into context, and it helped me feel more confident in my ability to spot the tricks and traps of any HC group I might encounter in the future. But never TOO confident. Because it's a stone cold fact, that the second you tell yourself, "I would never have fallen for this," you become a prime mark. But with these documentaries about kid's camps and twisted "tough love" training programs, I'm watching mostly out of hope that every single one of these people finally finds a way to be seen, whatever that means for them. Though I must say, with this Katherine Kubler docuseries, I also got to enjoy a very well structured and well drawn piece of cinema. She does use the 3 episode structure that has become popular for these kinds of shows, but many recent docs have been slammed for doing a piss-poor job of unraveling the story evenly across the whole series, or for dragging what should have been a 1.3 hr movie onto a 3-ep series. I would argue this film is a strong example of using the structure to patiently unveil the collective experiences of every child exposed to wWASP, the individual narratives of the filmmaker and her contributors, and the corruption of those few who are profiting off of all this suffering. I also truly appreciate the way that Kubler and others - in particular Alexa - refused to take excuses and deflection from the former abusers they interacted with. Only those willing to own what they'd done deserved to be heard, and those who don't, aren't owed a damn thing. Though, what I would give to see the look on a certain karaoke lover's face when he sees himself on the screen... Bonus points for peeling back the onion on C-PTSD, the role indoctrinating the parents plays in this industry and the fact that the Lichfield money train is still chugging right along. Educating the public about the "cults and cons" of this world is always a work in progress, but this docuseries does a solid job of furthering that goal, while also being a compelling piece of narrative activism. From one K.K. to another, my kudos to Katherine Kubler. :)
Filmmaker Director and Executive Producer, The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping @Netflix Founder, CEO, Executive Creative Director at Tiny Dino Executive Producer at Omnivision
My personal and professional life have collided with my directorial debut, The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping now streaming on Netflix. #1 in the U.S. for the first week and #3 globally. It's currently still in the Top 10 on Netflix after two weeks, which is rare for a documentary. So thankful for Jamila Farwell for green lighting this project and to Diane Becker and Melanie Miller of Fishbowl Films for producing the series, as well as our incredible show runner Rachel Libert. Peter Castagnetti was my amazingly talented Director of Photography who came along for the wild ride and captured such beautiful vérité cinematography. R. Brett Thomas and Samantha Smart pulled it all together in the edit bay and created such captivating sequences with their editing. My husband and Post Supervisor Kyle Kubler for being my support system through it all. Molly Rose for bridging the personal with professional and working tirelessly with survivors to gather all of the evidence and research. And all the survivors who entrusted me with your story, I hope I did it justice. Many more people to thank, this is just a start. The response so far has been overwhelmingly positive. I'm so glad to finally get this story told and I hope it brings about justice and healing for survivors and their families.
