Announcement: Cost of Goods, Inflation, Labor, Processing, Marketing, Transportation, Storage, Shrink, Profit Margin, and Financing, are just some of the points considered while we do our cost/price reviews each year. We consider what is fair, and what the market will bear as part of this formula long before posting each year's pricing. We have completed this process and are rolling out the 2024 pricing levels.....drumroll please......% of increase = 0%-AGAIN! You read that right, we are, again holding our Wholesale pricing at the same level as last year. Why? We continue to implement cost control that allows us to manage our costs as well as possible. We also are strong believers that serving our customers is the best practice for growth. I have said it before, it is not about us; it is about the consumer and we do all we can to offer the World's Best Cheddar, with best-in-class service, at the fairest price possible. Maple Leaf Foods Inc reported its Plant Protein business ( essentially Greenleaf Foods made up of Field Roast and LightLife ) has stabilized in the company's latest Q3 Earnings Release. Adam Grogan took over the CEO role for Greenleaf Foods in January of 2022 in efforts to rightsize the business. We see similar stabilization taking place in retail, though with fewer brands/assortment. It is imperative that brands (Daring. as a simple example) does not cannibalize their product turns in Retail by offering too many similar choices (i.e. several flavors) of a similar product. This assortment may work well in foodservice offering variety to operators (and we are extremely bullish on Daring. as a wings/poultry platform) - but in Retail stretching for those extra sales with a slight flavor variation WILL cannibalize your shelf turns on the other SKU(s) and WILL be noticed by the category analysts and potentially cause delisting (often it is not even the Buyers choice). It is imperative you know your category turn/expectations and maintain at/above those levels - and create promotions/programs that move more of the same SKU (i.e. an end-shelf promo with a row of your same product). #trade #marketingallowances #shelfturns #SKUAssortment

Campbell's Soup reported better-than-expected quarterly results and raised its annual sales growth forecast, attributing the improvement to increased demand for soups and frozen meals and the acquisition of Sovos Brands, known for Rao's Specialty Foods, Inc. sauce. After a period of decline, Campbell's sales volumes improved sequentially this year, aided by softer price increases and recovering consumer spending. CEO Mark Clouse highlighted gains in the cooking side of the portfolio. With the acquisition of Sovos, Campbell anticipates a 3-4% annual sales growth. Analysts view the acquisition positively for Campbell's growth prospects. Despite a rise in quarterly profit and sales, Campbell adjusted its annual organic sales and profit forecasts downward due to ongoing challenges in its snacks business. As the latest sign of what’s effectively being called the consumer behavior reset, Del Monte announced yesterday that it will begin winding down operations in Toppenish, WA, and Markesan, WI, this April to “align and streamline operational capacity with consumer demand.” In other words, as inflation and food prices continue to hammer at family grocery budgets and food bank usage numbers rise, food company profits have unsurprisingly begun to fall, and Del Monte is the latest company to announce plant closures, joining Kellanova, Utz Brands, Post Holdings, Tyson Foods, and others. #foodprices #groceryindustry #inflationimpact

Kellanova is planning to close two plants and make other changes as it aims to improve its supply chain and cut costs. The snacks maker said in an SEC filing last week it plans to close its Rossville, Tennessee Eggo waffles factory in 2024 and move breakfast foods production to other facilities. The Pringles and Cheez-It manufacturer also plans to shutter its plant in Manchester, U.K. It announced the closure, which could take place by 2026, on its quarterly earnings call last week. The facility employs 360 people and produces cereals such as Corn Flakes and Rice Krispies. The decision to reorganize its frozen foods operations in the U.S. comes as the company saw a 5% year-over-year decrease in net sales in the category last quarter, the company said in its earnings report. Overall, Kellanova posted an 8% increase in organic net sales in 2023 compared to the prior year. #kellanova #manufacturingjobs #jobcuts #costcutting #foodandbeveragemanufacturing

#Groceries such as mouthwash, sausages, and butter are all suffering from shrink and skimpflation, research by Which? found. During the cost-of-living crisis, value has become vital for shoppers, but retailers and manufacturers also face rising costs. Therefore companies have started to reduce sizes without dropping prices (shrinkflation) and cut the amount of key ingredients used in products (skimpflation). Ele Clark, Which? Retail Editor, said: “Our research shows that while some popular products are subtly decreasing either in size or quality, the same can’t be said for their prices – which means shoppers are inadvertently paying more for less.” Examples of shrinkflation include: Listerine Fresh Burst mouthwash going from 600ml to 500ml at Asda and Tesco PG Tips Tasty Decaf Pyramid tea bags being reduced from 180 bags to 140 at Morrisons, Ocado and Waitrose More at #Proactive #ProactiveInvestors #LSE #TSCO #tesco #groceries http://ow.ly/wXmI105ajsQ
