SYSTEMIC SENTENCES #3: ‘I deserve more' Systemic sentences fall into two broad categories: those that express a problem, and those that point towards a solution. The first two sentences I have posted about - ‘I would rather judge you than love you’ and ‘I am a little bit better than you’ - fall into the former category. They articulate an underlying dynamic in a relationship that is not healthy. Such is the case too with this third sentence, ‘I deserve more’. The sentiment behind the sentence is one of injustice, of being hard done by. It contains an implicit appeal to an invisible judge to make things fairer. In a way the sentence merely restates the childhood complaint, ‘It’s not fair!’ What makes the sentence ‘I deserve more’ unhelpful is that it asks an external force to make things right. In a sense, then, it represents an abdication of responsibility. However, things tend to go better, systemically speaking, when we own what is ours to own. ‘I deserve more’ counts as a systemic sentence. So what is a systemic sentence? A systemic sentence is a sentence designed to illuminate systemic issues and solutions. It point at the knots in a system - where there are entanglements, unintended consequences, false assumptions, misplaced loyalties, hidden grievances, etc - with a view to untying them and indicating a way forward. When humans inhabit systems - which is all the time - they tend to complicate them. The sentences aim to restore simplicity. I have made a digital deck of cards featuring systemic sentences. I am now wanting to get them printed. Please back my kickstarter campaign to turn the cards into physical reality. https://lnkd.in/e-VSASU5

Fascinating insights in this ISDM CPID working paper on funding distribution! Particularly struck by the figure showing how 70% of CSR goes to just 10 states. Clearly, organizations and families need more such data-driven research to strategize effectively. Imagine the impact if philanthropy targeted underserved regions based on clear needs and evidence! This could truly unlock transformative potential. Link to the working document: https://lnkd.in/d5RBrvpj
