U.S State – Michigan What do you see? Michigan's unique geographical location allows it to border an impressive four out of the five Great Lakes: Superior, Huron, Erie and Michigan. Over the next 50 days, I’ll be sharing a series of posters, each one distilling the essence of a U.S. state into a minimalistic design. Ranging from general light studies to investagions into point, line, and plane, the gestural modeling process has been nothing but constructive to my overall design experience. These models are not only a focused, yet liberating outlet of expression, but more importantly, they allow for exploration into material interaction and potential craft techniques. I’m a strong believer that the only way to truly win, is by creating win-win scenarios, or maintaining the ‘cycle of winning.’ Here’s what I mean… The client is proud of the work that they did for their client. So they hire me to create a video showcasing their work. Because they’re happy with my work, they decide to post my video. And because I’m happy with my video, I decide to repost it. Thus creating a perpetual cycle of winning. But if I choose to produce sub par results, just to get a paycheck, or just to get the job done. Whatever my motivation may be, the cycle of winning completely falls apart. The client doesn’t desire to showcase their good work anymore, I don’t desire to showcase my subpar work, and no one wins in the end… Let that sink in

Yesterday, students from 10 high schools across Detroit gathered to compete in Atlantic Impact’s inaugural ‘Build Detroit: Skilled Trades Challenge' at Eastern Market. The competition was a huge success, and we would like to thank everyone who helped make the day great! The Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers Union, Local 2 of Michigan coordinated and judged the masonry competition; Morrey's Contracting judged the carpentry competition; Sachse Construction sponsored prizes for the winners and recruited several volunteers, whom were an enormous help in facilitating a seamless event; Herc Rentals sponsored a much-needed forklift for the day; and 10 local businesses attended the business showcase to share their work and employment opportunities with over 100 local high school students, 'Build Detroit' competitors, and curious members of the community!
