I remember when I was just starting out as a recruiter and had to conduct my first interview. I was so nervous and thought to myself, "What if I ask the wrong questions?" But as I started to engage with the candidate, I realized that it wasn't about asking the right or wrong questions. And that's when I realized the power of active listening. It was a powerful lesson that I learned and has helped me in ensuring potential candidates feel heard and understood during interviews. If you're ever feeling nervous or you're facing a challenging interview, just remember the power of active listening. It might not be easy, but I promise you, it's worth it. Do you have any tips for overcoming nervousness during interviews? #recruiting #interviewtips #activelistening

Would you refer to your notes in a face-to-face interview? In a recent face-to-face interview, one candidate stood out by referring to their detailed notes, demonstrating thorough preparation. The client was so impressed that it influenced their decision to offer the position. None of the other candidates took notes into the interview, sparking an intriguing question: Why not? I’ve always encouraged having detailed notes on your desk for teams interviews, but in face-to-face interviews, it’s often seen as unconventional. Should we change that? I’d love to hear from hiring managers, or candidates for your take on this…. Should bringing notes into face-to-face interviews be encouraged more often? 🤔 #Interviewtips

‘What do I need to prepare for my interview?’ Probably one of the most common questions I get asked by candidates I am representing before an interview. The answer varies for each candidate, role and company we are working with. Do’s: ✔ Research the company and be prepared to talk through stats and figures you have found (you can even have a notepad open infront of you to help if it’s a virtual interview!) ✔ Be dressed for the occasion, First impressions are so important ✔ Research the interviewers and ask them questions about their experience and role in the business ✔ Ask open questions: What, Who, How, When & Tell me ✔ Use the STAR Technique when answering questions (Situation, Task, Action, Result) Don’ts ✖ Be underprepared – If you fail to prepare you prepare to fail! ✖Give long winded answers ✖Speak negatively about previous companies or managers ✖Interrupt the interviewer – Take time to listen and digest the question before giving your answer ✖Don’t falsify any information - If you don't know the answer just be honest! From your experience, what tips would you share for interviews?

We hear about so many interviewers who have never been trained to interview. Think back to the first interviews you ever did. Scared yet? Do you know what your interviewers are saying to candidates? Over the last few years, we’ve seen and heard so many stories about what interviewers are asking - some of it’s shocking. Like how about an interviewer recommending a candidate for a role because they share a love of dogs?! Across the tens of thousands of interviews our customers have conducted in Pillar so far this year, more than half (59%) have received coachable moments. These are moments that Pillar flags for interviewers to help them be better. How about you - have you ever had a crazy question asked during an interview? #Interviewing #InterviewingStats #InterviewCoaching

Doing this simple thing can improve your impression in the interview! Interviews are supposed to be a conversation and not an interrogation So NEVER skip the small talk at the start of the interview When the recruiter asks, “How are you? How has your day been?” Don’t just give small responses like “Fine” or “It’s been good” Give them a little something to understand you better Give more details and try to build a positive rapport But keep in mind to be brief as well And always return the question to the recruiter as well, to learn more about them Small talk is one of the most critical ways we build relationships in the business world So this will help you a lot! Do you skip the small talk in interviews? Let me know in the comments! #HR #Hiring #InterviewTips

Interview processes can be loooooong 💤💤 If you cannot make a decision after 3 interview rounds I think it may be time to re-evaluate your interview process… As a hiring team it is important to know what you want to uncover both in total and in each interview before starting the process. Each interview should not cover the same questions and topics. This is repetitive for the candidate and a waste of time for the hiring team. Map out what you want out of each interview be it; ↪️ Cultural behaviours ↪️ Situational based questions ↪️ Technical assessment ↪️ General experience/background questions Dragging candidates through 6 stages of interviews and then saying no is honestly so disheartening, I’m not sure what you couldn’t have picked up on in the 3rd or 4th round… #interviews #interviewtips

The last minute…“Can you take this interview for me?” Whatever the reason managers pawn off interviews, it doesn’t set anyone up for success. ❌The newly assigned interviewer is immediately stressed out, on a time-crunch and often going in with no idea what to ask the candidate (OR what’s already been asked of them in previous interviews.) And trust me, the candidate notices. 👉Hiring managers who invest time in defining the job’s necessary skills and have a hand in creating an interview process plan are more likely to want to see it’s successful outcome. Not sure how to get that kind of buy-in? Expert Interviewers has lessons in the on-demand course that specifically cover “defining right answers” and setting up a world class interview process. 👏If you are a hiring manager OR you support hiring managers, this is for you! #hire #interview #interviewprocess
