Moving Tactical #data across a #military network is not just a US Army or one service (https://lnkd.in/exaeU25e ) issue but must be a whole of United States Department of Defense priority like CJADC2 (Combined Joint All Domain Command & Control) and the efforts of DoD Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office. As Mr. Young Bang, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of ASA(ALT), was quoted in DefenseScoop - "how do we look at the data products, how do we decentralize those, how can we actually be a big player with them on the CDAO front and defining that future data mesh architecture? That’s kind of a work in progress as we kind of do the current as-is and kind of our objective areas.”

After two months in the job, the Department of Navy’s CIO is looking at updating the sea services’ information superiority vision with a focus on data. Published in 2020, the document had three key focus areas: modernize, innovate and defend. Now, Jane Rathbun wants to move to a more data-centric approach. “We are going to evolve to 2.0 in our information superiority vision [which] is going to go from modernize, innovate and defend — all very important things, we’re not going to stop doing any of those things — to optimize, secure and decide,” she said at the Google Defense Forum Thursday. “How do we make data a central focus of our efforts to make sure that it’s available, transparent, trustworthy, consumable and decision worthy? You’re going to see over the next six months our evolution of that concept.” The Department of Defense writ large has begun to shift to more of a data-centric approach vice a network-centric approach that envisioned a castle-and-mote mentality to network access. A data-centric model is about ensuring the right information can be accessed by the right person anywhere, with the proper security controls in place. Does your team have solutions? Step behind the scenes with us… What happened at the inaugural #ArmyDataSummit? Day 1 (yesterday) kicked off as the Army's Chief Data Officer, Dr. David Markowitz, highlighted many of the Army’s enduring data challenges. But there are many initiatives at play to address these, leading to presentations on pressing topics like: 💡 The importance of #Semantic Data Layers, especially for #data at scale. They address the data structures and deliver key semantics, like why the data was collected and data governance (see this in action with a demo of our flagship #sKG product. Link in comments!) 📈 The Army taking the time to understand the data and ensure the data is correct 🔧 The need for tools that are interoperable and can be integrated with our systems ⚡️ The need for tools that answer immediate questions. We don’t want Common Operating Pictures…if we’re determining where our #supplychain could be disrupted, we need to be able to answer that in advance. And here's a highlight from a great Day 2 🫡 #defensetech #knowledgegraphs

An innovative, new, data analytics model has emerged that will not only change the way the U.S. Army manages information but, more importantly, enhances data-driven, decision-making in the increasingly more complex realm of data-sharing operations. The VAULTIS (Visible, Accessible, Understandable, Trusted, Interoperable, and Secure) Model, which is part of the Army Data Plan, is a strategic set of principles that seeks to improve information sharing for decisions makers in a timely and effective manner. In a move to streamline technology transitions, Heidi Shyu, Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, has inaugurated the Transition Tracking Action Group (TTAG). This advisory body, established March 13, is set to harness advanced data analytics to track how the Department of Defense (DoD) delivers capabilities to the field. The goal of this initiative seeks to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of state-of-the-art systems and equipment to military personnel. To do this, the department will seek understand what the primary obstacles to transition are and if the measures it undertakes to improve outcomes are yielding desired effects. https://lnkd.in/eKdX5_iQ

#ICYMI When you're running just a few minutes behind, the last thing you want to see is traffic at the gate! Tinker Air Force Base is a step-ahead, and is testing data analytics tech to make gate transit more smooth for its large installation population. Nearly 30,000 people work at Tinker, making it the largest single-site employer in the state of Oklahoma. With that volume of military and civilian personnel entering the base each workday, traffic can easily become a problem. The data analytics technology they're testing is accessed through a web browser, established by the Department of the Air Force Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Office. To begin the process of making a prediction into the future, Defenders input traffic data from any gate. The program uses historical data to then generate a prediction for how many cars are going to arrive on base at each of the gates on a particular date as a function of time from midnight to midnight. This allows for more strategic planning and staffing, reducing gate traffic and easing the commute for all. #data #dataanalytics #digital
