The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded $41 million to the National Marine Energy Centers (NMECs) to support marine energy research and development. This funding, including $36 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will fuel over 30 R&D projects across 9 universities. https://lnkd.in/gztRPu9W Marine energy—capturing power from waves, tides, and currents—holds huge potential, with U.S. waters offering nearly 60% of the nation’s total power generation capacity. These advancements could significantly impact remote coastal and island communities relying on expensive fossil fuels. #CleanEnergy #MarineEnergy #DOE #BipartisanInfrastructureLaw #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability

Executive Recruiter matching experienced professionals with exciting opportunities at McKinsey & Company
To transform the country’s energy systems, companies across the United States need to build—a lot! With significant incentives provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) to manufacture clean energy equipment, stand up small- and large-scale clean energy power sources, and construct transmission and distribution infrastructure, states and the federal government could need to look at some of the challenges facing these projects. In this article, my colleagues Aditya Kumar, Sarah Tucker-Ray, Charlie Crosby, and Jennie Nevin look into ways state governments could work to accelerate permitting—particularly for clean-energy projects—without compromising the benefits of permitting practices, policies, and rules. 2024_03_27-28 Differences in design seem extremely important: I am not certain Jason Busch, executive director of Pacific Ocean Energy Trust, quoted in this article, noticed the difference in Eco Wave Power's design, which does not appear to require an "funneling water through turbine equipment." "Blue power: Will ocean waves be California’s new source of clean energy?” Photo: "Some wave technology, such as this one from Eco Wave Power, is deployed near shore, attached to seawalls or jetties, where paddle-like devices are driven up and down by wave action, activating hydraulic energy. The Energy Permitting Reform Act streamlines regulations to build faster and smarter by cutting through bureaucratic red tape, accelerating approval processes, and ensuring energy projects can be completed on time without unnecessary delays. This reform helps drive energy independence and lowers costs by enabling critical infrastructure projects to move forward more efficiently.

Carbon Removal Specialist • BECCS Implementation & Investment Strategy at Biorecro • Stockholm ClimateTech City Lead
💥Amazing movements being made for the deployment of large-scale #CCS and #CarbonRemoval in the US. ➡️ Government-led investment into CO2 transport will be a massive enabler for deploying technologies like #BECCS at scale, which is critical for meeting global climate targets. 🌿🌿🌿

🇺🇸 💵 BREAKING: U.S. announces $500,000,000 for CO2 transport infrastructure 💵 🇺🇸 🚚 Safe and reliable CO2 transport infrastructure is central to our ability to scale carbon dioxide removal (#CDR). According to the US Government, we will need around 96,000 miles of pipelines in the US alone - up from just 5,000 miles today. 👏 Building this infrastructure will cost billions and take years. As such, today’s announcement by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to provide $500m of grants is a clear signal to the market that the government is serious about this. 🔎 In its announcement, the DoE estimates that the US will eventually have to transport and store between 400Mt and 1.8Gt of CO2 yearly, coming from both industrial carbon capture and storage (#CCS) and atmospheric CO2 removal such as #BiCRS and #DACCS. 💰 This new programme - run by the DoE’s Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (#FECM) - is called “Carbon Dioxide Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation (CIFIA)” and is funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. 📜 The transport system—which may include pipelines, rail, trucks, barges, and/or ships—must connect, either directly or indirectly, two or more CO2 emitting sources to one or more conversion sites or secure geologic storage facilities. 📎 Check out the full funding opportunity announcement (#FOA) here: https://lnkd.in/dEj_nHj7 📅 The application deadline is July 30, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. ET. 😮 I have been amazed by the momentum the DoE has been generating over the past months: $100m for CDR projects, the $35m Procurement Prize, and the latest announcement of the Procurement Challenge (check comments for details). Very excited about this latest announcement and what it means for our ability to scale certain CDR approaches in the US. ❓What do you think? Step in the right direction? #geologicalstorage #carbonmarkets #carbonremoval #climatepolicy
