Far too many towns in my region have experienced decades of steady growth and balanced budgets every year only to find that they don't have enough money to maintain infrastructure, hire staff, improve services, or take on that new initiative to make their place better. We should question why that is. If you dig deep enough, the root cause of our financial predicament isn't government waste (although that exists), nor an unwillingness to pay taxes (although that attitude is common). Rather, the root cause is fiscally unsustainable land development choices--enforced by zoning codes and engineering standards. Check out the article to see what we should be building.
