I was talking a couple of weeks ago about these joined initiatives that beauty companies take more and more to accelerate the move towards sustainability. TRASCE is now official, with 15 major companies involved. The goal? Strengthen the understanding of cosmetics industry supply chains, assess related social & environmental risks, and determine actions to be implemented to support suppliers in becoming more sustainable. Glad to have the The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. a part of this new consortium that will enable brands to track key ingredients back to the source. This is becoming even more important to any company that uses agricultural or mineral raw materials. The insights from this work are critical to reduce risk of deforestation and social issues like forced or child labor. This is a good idea not only because of developing regulation in Europe but also to protect your company from being part of these negative issues. 📣The Traceability Alliance for Sustainable Cosmetics (TRASCE) consortium was announced last week, an initiative led by CHANEL to improve traceability within the sector to minimize links to illicit actors, forced labor, child labor, and deforestation. Other consortium partners include L'Oréal, The Estée Lauder Companies Inc., L’OCCITANE Group, Nuxe Group, Shiseido, and Groupe Clarins. This consortium presents an exciting opportunity for actors in the beauty industry to pool their resources to improve intelligence collection and monitoring to preemptively mitigate sourcing risks, from child labor in the mica supply chain in Madagascar, to shea butter linked to illicit actors in northern Côte d'Ivoire. To be successful, TRASCE will need to ensure it moves beyond using digital traceability tools as these are insufficient in providing an accurate analysis of the situation on the ground, particularly in fragile markets with limited digital ecosystems (where it matters most). By adopting a hybrid method combining digital forensics with field operations led by local experts, TRASCE consortium members will be able to fill traceability gaps and get a robust understanding of human rights, governance, and environmental trends on the ground, helping protect their brand by prioritizing the wellbeing of their workers and suppliers. https://lnkd.in/gcqkQy5e #traceability #humanrights #sustainability #cosmetics #cleanbeauty

🌟 PPWR - 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆: 🌿 𝗟𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘀: Following the latest amendments by the European Parliament on 22 November 2023 on the proposal for PPWR the requirements on recycling content have been significantly reduced in the target levels, providing a more attainable path for the cosmetics industry. 💼 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹: A noteworthy shift in measurement brings relief to the industrie. The focus is no longer solely on the product level but has transitioned to the manufacturing plant level. 🌍 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: This adjustment hopefully encourages collaboration within the cosmetics industry to share best practices at the manufacturing plant level.
