Learning Designer | EdTech Product Strategy & Research | 10+ years of experience delivering engaging learning experiences that drive outcomes
“While the quality of instructional materials matter, research shows that the overall learning experience design, or #lxd, plays a crucial role in learning and retention.” 👆This is why I regularly remind my teams that quality content is nothing without a *cohesive* learning experience. Effective packaging, delivery, and sequencing of “content” according to evidence-based learning design principles ensures EdTech products are providing the right interventions at the right times to drive better outcomes. #edtech #learningdesign #learningscience
Did you know that just 5-7 minutes of targeted instruction can make a huge difference in learning and retention? It's not about the time, but the quality of the practice. Here are three key factors that can make a difference: 1. Targeted instruction: when you only have 5 minutes you can’t jump around from topic to topic. It needs to be focused. 2. Spaced practice: by having the tutoring at one time and paired practice later in the day or the next day, that targeted practice was naturally spaced. 3. Immediate feedback: by having the practice with an app/game, students could apply and get feedback right away. While the quality of instructional materials matter, research shows that the overall learning experience design, or #lxd, plays a crucial role in learning and retention. So, let's focus on creating effective learning experiences that can truly make a difference. #edtech #learningscience #k12education #sor

Chasing Impact as a Leadership Academy graduate & Masters in School Administration recipient. Experienced turnaround leader laser focused on empowering others to elevate learning experiences & achieve greater outcomes.
Outcomes matter. Productive time with technology matters. At Age of Learning, we chase both. We consistently keep students in their zone of proximal development. We intentionally pivot to maximize student progress in learning pathways. We design with the science of gaming in mind so students want to persevere in their learning. We replicate the experience and outcomes achieved through tutoring. The time has come for educators to evaluate their EdTech tools. Good, better, best. Set aside the good or better to make a place for what works best. Kids deserve it. #TransformingLearning #teAmdIsruptor

🏫 ✍ In the post-pandemic era, nearly 40% of U.S. public schools are offering high-dosage tutoring to their students, benefitting approximately 11% of designated students in the current school year. Comprehensive research proves that intensive tutoring is a primary catalyst in academic remediation for struggling students. As we navigate the prominence of remote tutoring in modern education, it is crucial that we understand effective strategies to maximize benefits for students. 📚 Explore the four specific proof points identified by The Hechinger Report and supported by the National Student Support Accelerator below. Learn how to reinforce favorable outcomes of high impact tutoring and contribute to a more effective learning experience. #EducationInsights #Tutoring #PostPandemicEducation #RemoteLearning #EdTech #LitteraEducation
Four lessons from post-pandemic tutoring research, according to data and research staff writer Jill Barshay at The Hechinger Report 1. Timing matters 2. Hiring dilemma 3. Effectiveness of video #tutoring 4. How humans and machines could take turns "Despite the logistical challenges of setting up little children on computers with headphones, the tutored children ended the year with higher DIBELS scores, a measure of reading proficiency for young children, than students who didn’t receive the tutoring. One-to-one video tutoring sometimes produced double the reading gains as video tutoring in pairs, demonstrating a difference between online and in-person tutoring, where larger groups of two and three students can be very effective too. That study [by National Student Support Accelerator] was published in October 2023." More details on what this means here: https://lnkd.in/g9gghBRv

Founder/CEO of Gobekli Inc.: Delivering tools to help everyone understand, trust and grow talent. (LER powered Universal Talent Passports and Talent Synchronization software)
Ever wonder what high school might look like with full LER adoption? How would it change the classroom experience? - Would it change what students talk about in the halls, or think about if they're late for class? Would LERs change the way kids think about learning, or how they see themselves and their potential? if so-- How would that look? We've started making it a point to ask these questions - especially focusing on the (L)earner experience. Here's one of those those thought experiments. What do you think? Or more importantly, what do the high schoolers in your life think? https://lnkd.in/esNNijTV

Thrilled by evidence showing how evidence-based tutoring boosts attendance! Tailoring education to individual student needs is key to transforming education. Let's keep innovating!
OUT TODAY: Early Findings Show Evidence that #HighImpactTutoring Increases Student Attendance in D.C. Schools. As covered in The 74 Media, "Students who missed at least 30% of school in the prior year improved their attendance by five days — a small, but promising finding, experts say." For those following trends in chronic absenteeism, "these results highlight the multifaceted benefits of high-impact tutoring and its potential to address the widespread problem of chronic absenteeism in our schools," according to our founding director Susanna Loeb. Exciting news in education! 📚🎉 A new study from the University of Chicago Education Lab shows promise for scaling high-dose tutoring effectively and affordably. Our research demonstrates that a hybrid model combining in-person tutoring with computer-assisted learning can yield significant math gains for 9th graders, comparable to full in-person tutoring, while cutting costs by 30% and staffing needs by half. I was quoted in today’s CommonWealth Beacon article about the study: “The two main issues with high-dosage tutoring are costs and staffing issues, so this intervention is trying to get at both of these at the same time. This is a potential recipe for scaling up the right mix of technology and in-person tutoring.” This approach could be a game-changer in addressing pandemic-related learning loss and improving math education at scale.
