Purpose-Driven Nurse & Curriculum Creator | EdTech | Empowering Healthcare Education | Advocate for Nursing Excellence, Nurse Reimbursement, and Healthcare Policy Change
Hey, #nurses! Did you know our current #healthcare delivery system doesn't recognize the true value of your diverse skills? If you're caring for two patients on the same unit, and one gets nothing more than an assessment and a few medications, and the other requires multiple IV drips, wound care, and other skills - the hospital is likely reimbursed the same rate. Your time (and skill) is part of the overhead costs - much like housekeeping and maintenance. This system fails to recognize your value and expertise. It's time for a #reimbursement model that better reflects the complexity of nursing care. Follow the Commission for Nurse Reimbursement to learn more about our work! Second this as a must read. Also highlights the importance of designing regulation and other patient safety initiatives on an understanding of what people are actually doing to deliver care as safely as they can in challenging circumstances.
A silent safety scandal: A nurse’s first-hand account of a corridor nursing shift. Corridor nursing is increasingly being used in the NHS as demand for emergency care grows and A&E departments struggle with patient numbers. In this anonymous account, a nurse shares their experience of corridor nursing, highlighting that corridor settings lack essential infrastructure and pose many safety risks for patients: https://lnkd.in/enXikdYy #pslhub #patientsafety #avoidableharm #nursing #riskmanagement #deterioration #corridorcare

On average, an #ICU nurse performs around 125 tasks per hour. Automating urine output monitoring can help you think critically and ensure consistency of care for patients. If your patient requires strict I/O measurements, you should use a Foley catheter, which can provide more accurate insights. #Accuryn offers advanced and precise UO monitoring, eliminating the cumbersome task of hourly measurements and reducing the cognitive burden of averaging data. It has also been linked to reducing the risks associated with CAUTI. With Accuryn, you can achieve #CriticalCareDoneSmarter and protect your patient's kidney >> https://lnkd.in/ghmy8xxg #ProtectTheKidney #criticalcare #nursesonlinkedin #nursing #nurses #physicians #kidney #medicaldevices #medtech #hospitals #healthcare

As an ICU nurse for over 30 years, I’ve witnessed a common theme when “The Joint” (aka: Joint Commission) is in the building. Nurse:Patient ratios are SAFE! (Why isn’t it like this when they’re not here?) I recently witnessed this scenario: Manager: “Joint Commission’s here!” (Read: “Everybody: On your P’s and Q’s! Everybody tremble!”) (ICU staffing: Not one nurse is tripled.) Admissions/transfers happen… Joint Commission does their thing, then leaves the building. ICU Manager: “We have to send a nurse home because we’re ‘over-staffed.’” This leaves 2 ICU nurses with 3 patients each. (Due to constructions, the ICU had been extended out to a separate unit. One of the nurses who had 3 patients had 2 patients in one area, and another in the actual ICU.) This is not safe. This is reckless. Patients are being neglected. Every day should be treated as if “The Joint” was in the building. #JointCommissionDoYouKnowDoYouCare #patientsafety #nursepatientratios #liabilitymitigation #savelives #profitsoverpatients #Jointcommissiom #AHCA #FLSenate
