Have ever you stepped foot into a space that leaves you speechless, excited, full of emotion, or in complete amazement? Comfort. Curiosity. Wonder. Contemplation. Architecture leaves an indelible imprint on our lives, becoming part of our story. It shapes and moves us – physically, spiritually, and emotionally. The power of architecture is woven into the fabric of everything we do at Grace Farms. The River building, designed to break down barriers between people and nature, offers visitors the meaningful opportunity to embrace new perspectives as they make their way through each of its glass-enclosed volumes. No two views are the same. It brings people from all walks of life together every single day. A demonstration of how architecture moves us towards creating an active community, locally and globally. It is also an expression of sustainability and the impact of building ethically, underscoring the work of the Design for Freedom by Grace Farms movement which seeks to end modern slavery in the building materials supply chain. This global movement’s mission is to create a more humane built environment and showcase architecture’s capability of moving us towards justice. It is also a demonstration of how architecture moves us towards peace – nestled into the surrounding 80 acres of restored meadows, woodlands, and ponds, it is a place for contemplation, appreciation, and respect for wildlife, the natural world, and our place in it. At the heart of all of this is the extraordinary vision of our CEO and Founder, Sharon Prince – that architecture has the ability to move us towards achieving humanitarian outcomes across sectors. As we prepare to celebrate our 9th Anniversary, we are inviting you to think about how architecture moves you. This meaningful anniversary will see us welcome a 31-musician chamber ensemble of musicians from the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by LPO 2023/24 Fellow Conductor Luis Castillo-Briceño. The moving program will incorporate our theme Architecture Moves Us, further illuminating our mission and work. To learn more and purchase a ticket, visit: https://lnkd.in/eSMSPdaJ In the meantime, we invite you to share a time when architecture moved you – tell us about your experience in the comments.

I've always been fascinated by historical sites, especially the challenge of preserving our past while adapting to present-day needs. The debate often centers around how much a site can be altered without losing its historical significance. This dilemma brings to mind the philosophical concept of The Ship of Theseus, prompting me to consider the more nuanced details of preservation. Does anyone else struggle with this philosophical dilemma? If so, how do you tackle it in the context of historic preservation? #franklintn #historicpreservation #landscapearchitecture
In our work as landscape architects and planners, we place great importance on the preservation of historical sites. This practice involves conserving a location's physical elements and safeguarding its cultural and historical value. By honoring past elements with present-day design, we can craft spaces that narrate a storied history and establish a connection between individuals and their heritage. Through a thoughtful design process, we can intentionally craft spaces that help future generations gain knowledge from history. Our involvement in historic preservation plays a vital role in shaping the constructed environment in a manner that shows respect and pays tribute to the legacy of those who came before us. Working on numerous historic sites across Franklin, GDC values the delicate balance between innovative ideas and preserving our rich heritage. #historicfranklin #preservation #thisislandscapearchitecture #design #communityengagement

In the historic center of Madrid, Spain, a new addition to the Reina Sofía School of Music puts sustainability at the forefront of its design. The project provides a unique challenge as historic preservation of the existing building was crucial to the designs. Inside the school, Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos has masterfully designed an interior environment that is calm and welcoming for its students and teachers, that fosters a sense of community among its users. An atrium is planned to be added to the school which will allow for a flood of natural sunlight to flow throughout the interior spaces. An open floor plan and light natural materials will allow for cheerful interior spaces and facilitate the reduction in the need for manufactured light. While the interior will be retrofitted and modified, the facades of the historic school will largely remain the same. The project is a phenomenal example of how we can preserve and protect our architecturally significant cities, while still adapting them and making them more sustainable. My new blog post! Real estate is changing. Maybe we are witnessing the death of the traditional… Its last dying spurts. Creativity must spring from the wreckage. A new design. A new way to live. Sparks fly. Ideas are born. Shall we amalgamate households and live under one roof with a common living area? Light, bright…modular, metal? Bubbles? Pods? #RealEstate #Change #Toronto
Is there anything new under the sun
