Recently, CNN wrote an article on PFAS, a class of chemicals used in various industrial applications. In the packaging industry, PFAS are most often discussed in conjunction with the fluorination process as recent studies have found that the fluorination process used during the manufacturing of certain types of plastic bottles can lead to the formation of PFAS. ⚠ Some of the #pvc additives and microparticle releases may pose risks to people and the environment. That’s the main conclusion of the recent investigation, conducted by the European Chemicals Agency. 📝 A while ago, the European Commission approached ECHA with the request to prepare a report on polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic and its additives. As the Commission expressed: 📣 “There are growing concerns that the alternative substances used to replace the restricted additives, particularly plasticisers and flame retardants, may themselves pose risks.” 🔬 The investigation focused on 63 PVC additives, such as plasticisers, heat stabilisers and flame retardants. 💻 Learn more about the results and future actions here 👉 https://lnkd.in/d33p4Vy7
