⚠ Some of the #pvc additives and microparticle releases may pose risks to people and the environment. That’s the main conclusion of the recent investigation, conducted by the European Chemicals Agency. 📝 A while ago, the European Commission approached ECHA with the request to prepare a report on polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic and its additives. As the Commission expressed: 📣 “There are growing concerns that the alternative substances used to replace the restricted additives, particularly plasticisers and flame retardants, may themselves pose risks.” 🔬 The investigation focused on 63 PVC additives, such as plasticisers, heat stabilisers and flame retardants. 💻 Learn more about the results and future actions here 👉 https://lnkd.in/d33p4Vy7

Under modern legislation, a lot of old and excellent chemicals like toluene, trichloroethylene and other materials have to be tightly controlled and in some circumstances simply cannot be used how they were many years ago. Replacing these materials with water based alternatives often leads to poor results. Not to mention costly, and variable costs associated with carrying chemicals, and the health and safety of having often dangerous and highly flammable liquids on the factory floor. Plasma and corona systems remove all of these costs, hazards and concerns. https://lnkd.in/gGF5gXYj #surfacetreatmentsystems #sticktogether #redditch #plasmasurfacetreatments #coronasurfacetreatments #corona #plasma #PlasmaSurfaceTreatment #PlasmaPrinting

PFAS, also known as per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are a class of chemicals used in various industrial applications, including the fluorination process. Recent studies have found that the fluorination process used during the manufacturing of certain types of plastic bottles can lead to the formation of PFAS. Graham offers a suite of different technical solutions that can help achieve the same barrier properties as fluorination without the use of harmful PFAS chemicals. Contact sales@grahampackaging.com to learn how Graham can provide solutions to help protect your product and the environment. #grahampackaging #pfas #fluorination #barriersolutions #sustainablepackagingsolutions

What are flame retardants? The term "flame retardant" does not refer to a specific class of chemicals, but describes a function. By definition, they are chemical substances that have the effect of delaying ignition, reducing the burning rate and minimizing the smoke emission of the material into which they are incorporated. In the plastics industry, they are used to reduce the inherent flammability of polymers and increase their resistance to burning. In addition to the plastics industry, they are also widely used in the textile and coating industries. In recent years, the market has observed a division of additives into halogenated and non-halogenated additives. In countries with more advanced environmental protection legislation, halogenated products are banned. #CHNV #Retardant

"Most vinyl chloride is used to make polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic, which poses significant health and environmental problems that have been known for over 50 years." This was stated by Judith Enck of NGO Beyond Plastics when the US EPA's review of vinyl chloride was announced in December last year. But it's not true that PVC poses significant health and environmental problems: - Since the 1950s, PVC has enabled endless #innovation within medical applications, resulting in life-saving blood bags, tubing, oxygen masks and much more. - PVC is inert, non-toxic, and recognised as a Polymer of Low Concern by the OECD. - The European Chemicals Agency has noted that PVC production in Europe has significantly evolved, thanks to stringent environmental regulations and advancements in manufacturing technologies. 🚨We’re calling on the European Commission to #BanPVC! Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) is a commonly used plastic that exposes people and the environment to toxic, carcinogenic chemicals and contaminants. PVC can be found in everything from raincoats to construction materials. The amount of chemicals used to manufacture PVC, makes it a very damaging material throughout its lifecycle. It’s time to take action and replace it with safer alternatives 🔬! Sign the petition to push for a comprehensive ban on PVC 📝 https://lnkd.in/e6fYkfKp Learn more about the health impacts of PVC ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eZY4J9ai #ToxicFreeFuture
