Taking a break from themes such as #AIACT, #GenerativeAI and #Am-I-AI-? let's focus just for a moment on spring, light, the power of stories to change and to communicate and the 'whyness' of your hard work. Today is #IMBOLC - the beginning of spring and the festival of light in the old Celtic tradition. It's a day of positivity, when new beginnings happen, when the fruits of our labours may start to be seen.......if we've done it right. It is also a day to celebrate for other, important reasons. Brigid's Day is now a national holiday in #Ireland, following years of campaigning by many groups including #herstory to bring about equality, representation and identity in terms of how we celebrate, what we remember and why. You can read all about the incredible campaign that took place in Ireland. Brigid, who is a Celtic Goddess and a religious saint crosses boundaries; for some it unites otherwise disparate groups. Whether it's in work or in life, knowing our "story", why we do what we do and what we are trying to achieve is essential to #communication, to bridge gaps and bring people together. Take a moment for yourself, you deserve it. Maybe though you could also think of your story, your company's story and what your customers and clients hear. Make the message work whether it's personal, your branding, your organisational imperative or for humanity. https://lnkd.in/ecyrX3ZQ

“We want to be free without you having your foot on our neck.” - @africanacarrhu Hold up, folks! @btbep.podcast and @africanacarrhu are serving a truth sandwich you NEED on your plate. They’re diving deep into the concept of freedom, and what it means for Black America. Forget “freedom fries” and fireworks. True freedom ain’t about indulging your whims at someone else’s expense. It’s about liberation, about breathing without a knee on your neck. Can there be levels of freedom built on oppression? Is “being free” for some dependent on holding others down? Dr. Carr and Shayna are calling out the BS. #Juneteenth wasn’t about petty freedoms – it was about the right to exist, to thrive, to build a life without constant fear. #BlackFreedom Parents, students, educators – let’s get real! What does freedom REALLY mean in the context of race? How can we dismantle systems built on oppression and create a future where everyone can breathe easy? Share this post, tag someone who craves a deeper conversation, and let’s redefine freedom together. It’s not about “me first,” it’s about building a world where ALL can rise. #FreedomForAll #JuneteenthUnfiltered #InterrogateYourFreedom #juneteenth #education #blackeducation #juneteenthcelebration #juneteentheducation https://lnkd.in/guDY8u3E

Former Diplomat | Advocate for Intercultural Engagement in Education, Youth Empowerment and Capacity Building, and Foreign Language Acquisition 🇱🇨
👉🏾The Haitian Revolution brought an end to slavery and French colonial rule in Haiti in 1804. 👉🏾 In Saint Lucia and the rest of the English-speaking Caribbean, our enslaved ancestors were freed in 1834, a year after the official proclamation. 👉🏾 The formal end of slavery in the Spanish-speaking countries of South and Central America occurred during pivotal independence movements which began as early as the 1810s, with slavery ending in most of these countries by the 1850s. Slavery in Puerto Rico ended in 1873, and in Cuba in 1886. 👉🏾 After a 10-year transition period from the initial proclamation, enslaved persons in Suriname and the Dutch Antilles were freed in 1873. 👉🏾 In 1888, Brazil was the last country in the Americas where slavery came to an end. ---------- Juneteenth (June 19) commemorates the end of slavery in the United States which is an important part of this timeline. Occurring in 1865, this places the US as one of the last countries to end slavery in the Americas. This TedX animation was beautifully and intentionally crafted and gives a comprehensive overview of the end of slavery in the United States and the continued fight for racial equality for Black Americans to this day.

What is Juneteenth, and why is it important? - Karlos K. Hill and Soraya Field Fiorio Today, we honor Juneteenth, a pivotal day in American history. On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of slavery, marking a monumental step toward freedom for African Americans. This day, now known as Juneteenth, commemorates when the last enslaved people in the United States were informed of their liberation over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Juneteenth is not just a celebration of emancipation but a powerful reminder of the African American community's resilience, strength, and enduring spirit. It's a day to reflect on the struggles and triumphs of those who fought for freedom and those who continue to fight for equality and justice. Juneteenth is a day of reflection, education, and celebration. Let's honor this historic day by committing to ongoing efforts toward equality and justice for all. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #Equality #BlackHistory #DiversityAndInclusion #SocialJustice #CommunityEmpowerment https://lnkd.in/gTbNNVHV
