Ofgem has welcomed the Electricity System Operator’s (ESO) latest proposals for reforming the grid connections process, describing its preferred model as an “ambitious idea”. The regulator said the proposals would “significantly contribute” to realising the “overall vision” of the joint Connections Action Plan (CAP) published by the government in November, but qualified that they are unlikely achieve the plan’s full objectives in isolation.

Thames Water has proposed adding up to £3 billion more to its spending plans for PR24, bringing its total expenditure to £21.7 billion for the five years to 2030. This would raise household bills by a further £19 to £627 by 2030, if the full £3 billion of proposed spending goes ahead. It also takes the industry’s total spending ask for PR24 to just over £100 billion.

Legislation banning wet wipes containing plastics will be introduced in the coming months after a consultation showed 96% support for the move. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) said the decision to reduce the amount of plastic entering waterways by incorrectly disposed of wipes received overwhelming public support.
