🌍✨How can Estonia’s pilot regional councils help lead regional development in Central and Southern Estonia? 🚀 To begin answering this question, the OECD facilitated two vision-setting workshops to explore with the Paide (Central) and Tartu (Southern) Estonia regional councils and key stakeholders. Together they discussed in detail how the councils could tackle issues that surfaced during multi-stakeholder foresight workshops conducted earlier this year. 🔍 The workshops focused on key development challenges and opportunities in the two regions, breaking down the overarching goal of increasing regional competitiveness to component parts. During the workshops, participants delved into various facets of development and how they were and could be experienced in the region, including all levels of education, rental versus owner-occupied housing, community amenities, connectivity, the business environment, and the regional potential for innovation. The results will help support designing a longer-term, place-based regional development strategy based on stakeholder’s identified needs, priorities and desires.   These workshops were part of the European Union-funded Strengthening Regional Specialisation and Competitiveness in Estonia project. The institution established on December 2020 following the unification between the Chamber of Cagliari and the Chamber of Oristano. However, the Cagliari Chamber has over 160 years of activity, being founded in 1862.
