In partnership with Fiduciary Trust International, we hosted a Climate Equity Happy Hour in New York City to bring together impact leaders and investors advocating for climate solutions that benefit all communities. It was a fantastic evening of networking and learning. We are grateful to our moderator, Jeff Finkelman, CFA, and guest speakers Shannon Dulaney, Sonam Velani, Sasha Novograd Brown, and Lauren Zullo—for sharing their insights and experiences. Their contributions are invaluable as we navigate the complexities of mitigating climate change while addressing the needs of middle- and low-income communities, a critical step towards realizing our net-zero ambitions!

We know that the urgency of this crisis means that climate action cannot wait. Our work targets four essential climate investment themes – areas where impact investors are best suited to generate the biggest impact per dollar: #climatejustice, the #energytransition, deep #decarbonization and #naturebasedsolutions. We are always excited to hear how our work may intersect and mutually strengthen that of others in the climate finance community. If you’re attending Climate Week NYC and are passionate about impactful climate action, keep an eye out for us! Climate Week NYC is on—the largest annual event of its kind to drive climate action. We're excited to see our own Michael Maslansky and Will Howard getting involved. Here’s Will joining a distinguished panel of speakers for a Financial Times Live event titled, “Is the Writing on the Wall for NZAM and CA100+?” The panel discussed how to address the mounting pressure from investors and politicians for asset managers to take a step back from ESG commitments. For more on how investors are responding to climate actions and anti-ESG pressure, check out this article from Michael Maslansky and Will Howard, as featured in Harvard Business Review. https://lnkd.in/gyX3VxjT #ClimateWeek #ESG #ResponsibleInvesting #ClimateAction

In this episode we follow the journey of Gudrun Cartwright, the Climate Action Director for Business in the Community, as she shares her unique path and insights. We explore how her experiences in the NHS motivated her shift to environmentalism and then joining the mission of Business in the Community, a responsible business network in the UK that aims to create a fairer and greener world. We talk about the increasing recognition among CEOs that climate action is a major issue, with 85% identifying it as a top concern and about corporations feeling the heat from market pressures and fears of greenwashing. We also talk about the role of Gen Z in driving purpose-driven work and the intricate challenges faced by global businesses, plus the anticipated prominence of climate finance at the upcoming COP and the critical need to "follow the money" for effective climate action. You can listen to her episode here: https://lnkd.in/etxjcKTG Follow GoodGeist for more episodes on sustainability, communications and how creativity can help make the world a better place. #DNS #GoodGeist #climatefinance #climateaction

Heartfelt advice for anyone just starting out in climate funding, from the extremely wise Rathana Chea, Co-Founder of Multicultural Leadership Initiative, chatting to Groundswell's CEO Arielle Gamble. Rathana is also an advisor of our newly launched Major Giving Circle – a dedicated new funding collective for individuals and families united in the fight against climate change. We started the Major Giving Circle because of a deep understanding of the urgency of this moment. Yes, we only have a few short years left to avoid locking in irreversible climate damage, and yes the changes we need are systemic and need to be driven by the government. But the government doesn’t act in a vacuum. Politicians respond to people. Especially when the people are many, insistent, and loud about what they want. Through collective action, we can shift the public narrative, influence policy, and push for the kind of transformation that’s needed. This is what is driving our Major Giving Circle strategy. Executive leader focusing on community-centered climate justice at the intersection of housing, transportation, health, and environmental planning and policy
I have been waiting for this report by The Greenlining Institute and USC Equity Research Institute! Folk must dive in to the third party equity centered lessons learned research of the #California #ClimateInvestments #ggrf 10 years in! My experience with CCI started 10 years ago when I helped launch the Transit Intercity Rail Capital Program and managed the Low Carbon Transit Operstions Program within Caltrans; piloted the first state TA in 2017-18 with California Strategic Growth Council (Monica Palmeira and Ena Lupine); and my current portfolio includes the Transformative Climate Communties (initiated under CCI) and CCI Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities and Sustainable Agriculture Lands Conservation programs— and of the 10 lessons identified in the report, these three stood out to me: 2: Climate investments produce the most visible, felt impacts when projects are community-driven or have significant community buy-in and involvement. 5: Ongoing support from the state and philanthropy is needed to ensure communities can easily access and utilize public climate dollars, and build longer term #capacity. In particular, defragmenting programs, streamlining and reducing administrative barriers, and providing ample #technicalassistance should be priorities. 6: Tribal Nations and Indigenous communities relate to climate investments in their own ways—and investments must tailor support to respect the unique context of these communities. Let’s start documenting more of “felt impacts” to inform, update, and revitalize our #CCI programs. What are your take aways?
Federal and state leaders are investing billions to combat the worsening climate crisis. But the story of climate change is also a story of inequity, so these funds must be targeted to the communities that need them most to have the most impact. In our latest report, developed in partnership with USC Equity Research Institute, Lolly Lim, Vanessa Carter Fahnestock and their team analyze the nation’s longest running portfolio of equity-centered community climate investments–California Climate Investments (CCI). Through a comprehensive equity analysis of ten years of CCI, the report offers lessons for investing in climate solutions that both slow the progression of climate change, while addressing deeply rooted inequity that threatens #BIPOC communities and the possibility of a more just and prosperous society. The report lays bare that success for CCI and future climate investment programs is rooted in community power.
