Today marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act #ADA. This historic civil rights legislation prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The ADA ensures that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. As we celebrate how far we've come, I'm proud to share the launch of NJ's Disability Information Hub. The hub is a website organizing information about services NJ offers to support people with disabilities throughout their lifespan. This work is the result of 12 years by a remarkable team at the state led by Diana Maurone. The hub takes that information and presents it to you in an accessible format that is easy to understand and navigate. It also connects you to live Community Resource Specialists who can help answer questions and guide you to the services you need based on your individual circumstances. Please take a minute to watch the official launch below and be sure to visit the hub anytime at:nj.gov/disabilities #ADA35 #AmericansWithDisabilitiesAct #DisabilityRights #Inclusion #Accessibility #DisabilityAwareness #NJDisabilityHub #CivilRights #EqualOpportunities #CommunitySupport #DisabilityServices #AccessForAll #CelebrateDiversity #Empowerment #AccessibilityMatters #SupportForAll

Diversity is the range of human differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability or attributes, religious or ethical values system, national origin, and political beliefs. Inclusion is involvement and empowerment, where the inherent worth and dignity of all people are recognized…(my favorite part!) An inclusive [environment] promotes and sustains a sense of belonging; it values and practices respect for the talents, beliefs, backgrounds, and ways of living of its members. Belonging is feeling valued, respected, supported, and empowered in your professional, educational, and personal endeavors. **Modified from the Ferris State University DEI office.**

As a military veteran with disabilities I completely agree and mentioned this during a webinar for professional coaches yesterday. How can we create inclusive barrier-free environments (and opportunities) where everyone can contribute their talents and gifts? For coaches, this not only includes awareness (without judgement or stigma) of clients’ needs but also coach’s needs as well. #coaching #icfcoaching #icfcoach

FYI ⬇ Disability is Diversity. I know it seems obvious, but research and numbers indicate that diversity programs in many organizations don't consider disability - 80% say they have a diversity program, and only 4 or 5% consider disability. Disability is Diversity. #DisabilityInclusion
