AAL Shipping is set to take delivery of the second in its series of eight new “Super B-Class” vessels. Following a formal naming ceremony at the CSSC Huangpu-Wenchong Shipyard in Guangzhou, China, the AAL Hamburg has begun preparations for its maiden voyage to Europe carrying a mix of #projectcargo weighing a combined 5,600 tons. The 32,000 DWT, dual-fuel vessel is equipped with three portside 350-ton cranes, with tandem lifting giving it a maximum lifting capacity of 700 tons and an outreach of 35.7 meters. A retractable weather-deck system dubbed the Eco-Deck will be fitted on all Super B-Class vessels to increase clear stowage space on deck to more than 5,200 square meters. The first in the series, AAL Limassol, was launched in late-December and has already begun trading on key routes from Asia to Europe, Americas and Australia. The remaining vessels in the series are slated for delivery between now and 2026. “The delivery of AAL Hamburg, as well as the success of AAL Limassol’s record-setting maiden voyage, is the realization of a long-term strategy initiated several years ago to have a highly capable fleet suited to serve the variety of cargo types and industries that our customers represent,” said Christophe Grammare, managing director of AAL Shipping. “We have seen from AAL Limassol’s voyage – with a hugely varied cargo load of nearly 90,000 freight tons including barges, modules, cranes and wind turbines – that the Super B-Class fleet is already realizing a new level of capability for AAL. AAL Hamburg’s maiden voyage is further reinforcing that sentiment, and we are looking forward to welcoming the remaining vessels in the series over the next two years.” #breakbulk #projectlogistics #multipurpose #breakbulkamericas #bbam2024

Container ships handle 90% of global trade, transporting over 800 million containers each year. These engineering marvels can carry up to 24,000 TEUs, stretch 400 meters in length, and rise 60 meters above the waterline. Their hulls are made of reinforced steel to endure extreme ocean pressures. Equipped with advanced navigation and propulsion systems, these ships visit 600 ports and travel 200,000 nautical miles annually. #GlobalTrade #ContainerShipping #Logistics #SupplyChain #MaritimeIndustry #EngineeringMarvels #InternationalShipping #FreightForwarding #TEU #PortOperations

Danish ferry and logistics company DFDS (CPH:DFDS) on Tuesday pledged to invest EUR 1 billion (USD 1.08bn) in battery electric vessels as part of a wider commitment to decarbonising maritime traffic in the English Channel. The plan involves the deployment of six battery electric ships on the Dunkirk-Dover and Calais-Dover routes to carry passengers and freight between the UK and the European Union, the shipping company said. The first two electric vessels are expected to be in operation by the end of the decade and the rest will follow before 2035. “This is an important step towards decarbonising cross-Channel transport. Because of the relatively short distance between the UK and France, the routes are optimal for electric ferry transport,” said Torben Carlsen, CEO of DFDS. The initiative was announced following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DFDS and the Port of Dover, the Port of Boulogne Calais and the Port of Dunkirk. The pact aimed to facilitate the parties’ collaboration to decarbonise maritime traffic in the Straits of Dover. DFDS said it is working closely with national authorities, infrastructure partners and energy suppliers to secure the energy supply and infrastructure for electric ships, adding that ambitions are in place on both sides of the Channel to enable green transport corridors. #electricvessels #decarbonisation https://lnkd.in/dP2KBhpi

What is so promising about these “wings” for shipping vessels is that they can be retrofitted onto existing ships for immediate returns and a break even timeline of six years. It’s a positive step while we look to develop even more ambitious technologies for newly built ships.
