To clarify what we did in Washington DC, I recorded a PainExam Podcast Zoom with Hemant Kalia MD MPH FIPP, Mark Stultz, @christopherconrad Talk to your state societies and local congressman. Many of our political leaders think that limiting the prior authorization process will solve the problem of health care access. Unfortunately, payers have found ways around it, and politicians need to be educated, so they can act to ensure our patients get access to the best therapies possible! #interventionalpain #painmanagement #painphysician Peter Staats, MD, MBA Mehul J Desai @davidreece Sean Li, MD, FIPP

NEW: How did trauma-informed policies and legislation fare in Congress and state legislatures in 2023? Explore our analysis: https://loom.ly/11aZsZo Rather than simply including bills that merely mention “trauma-informed” in passing, the most recent report is the result of intentional analysis that considers factors such as SAMHSA’s “4 Rs” framework, the principles of a trauma-informed approach, as well as allied frameworks connected to redressing cycles of collective and historical trauma such as principles CTIPP includes under the umbrella of ABDEIJ (Accessibility, Belonging, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice).

How can we ensure that technological innovations, which are often framed as good for humankind, are not in fact being used to further racist, sexist, capitalist, and/or authoritarian agendas? NPQ is looking for articles, art and creative writing that explore this question for our upcoming health justice magazine: https://hubs.ly/Q02QH3cP0

Now that we have confirmation of brain injury WITH confirmation of inflammation happening in his brain, I am keener to watch and observe the sporadic joint inflammations as a key performance indicator of his physical and emotional health. Now, I have physical tests that back my stance about the emotional and mental swings that can happen because, it just so happens I learned in #medical terminology that -itis means #inflammation. I had a strong suspicion I was dead nuts on about #TBI and inflammation. It is NOT just chemical. It's much more than that and we do a tremendous amount of disservice relying on assumptions with medical diagnosis and "throwing things at the wall to see what sticks." There is much more to pull together for the puzzle pieces to make sense so we can obtain a higher degree of success in helping patients. The #veteran #caregivers putting in the time, #analyzing, #advocating, and doing the #homework and #groundwork NEED a #team of #professionals to help if we MEAN WHAT WE SAY WHEN WE CLAIM TO BE GRATEFUL FOR THE SERVICE OUR #VETERANS SACRAFICED FOR OUR #LIBERTY. Otherwise, if all a person can do is sit around criticizing from the bleachers while watching those of us in the arena--we do NOT need your feedback or input on what we are doing to do what we can to make a difference in the lives of the #patients that are asking for help. The time of underestimating #partners, caregivers, and loved ones in gender, #MarginalizedGroups, and basic inhumane #othering is coming to an end. It would be advisable to check our biases and tendencies to justify unethical choices as a result of our preconceived generational conditioned notions. https://lnkd.in/gPUshxCx
