A 1.5 MW solar power plant with the largest energy storage system in Lithuania with a capacity of 2 MWh, installed on the roof of the UAB Švyturys - Utenos alus brewery in Utena, has just been granted permission to generate electricity. This project, implemented with GREEN GENIUS, allows the brewery to generate up to 25% of its electricity needs from renewable sources. 🌍 This step brings us closer to full energy independence. The energy storage system ensures that excess solar energy is used exactly when needed, giving even more stability to the production process. 💡 This innovative project is an important part of the Carlsberg Group's goal to achieve zero CO2 emissions from its breweries by 2030. With its climate-neutral production status since 2019, Utena Brewery continues to lead the way in implementing green energy solutions in the Baltic States. 🌿

Net Zero Operations The production of fresh fruit is an extremely energy intensive business and therefore in order to reduce the carbon footprint of the group in 2008 the first solar-PV power plant was installed on the rooftop of the group’s headquarters in Laives, Bolzano. Today, the roofs of all 5 production halls are covered with solar-PV panels producing around 10 million kWh of green energy each year. Currently, the group is expanding its portfolio by three further power plants and is revamping the two oldest existing power plants to guarantee highest production. By continuously adding new plants to the group's portfolio, by the end of 2024 the yearly production of renewable energy will amount to approximately 30 million kWh.

📣 Reel has received a 5 million DKK grant from Elforsk 📣 for a project aimed at improving solar assets combined with energy storage technologies, ultimately contributing to reducing CO2 emissions from electricity production 📉🔋💚 We do need a fast and efficient transition to a fossil-free energy supply, and a big part of this transition is ensuring that renewable energy becomes more available when we need it. As of now in Denmark , it’s primarily accessible when the wind blows🍃 or the sun shines ☀️, but if we want to succeed at decoupling our energy consumption from fossil fuels, we need access to these renewable resources regardless of the weather. Frutura Obst & Gemüse Kompetenzzentrum GmbH collaborates with Orcan Energy AG for power generation from excess geothermal heat in Austria. Nestled in the heart of Blumau, Austria, our latest initiative has seen the untouched potential of geothermal heat transformed into a beacon of sustainable energy production. The introduction of Orcan Energy's cutting-edge energy modules allows us to harness approximately 625 MWh of electricity each year, resulting in a significant reduction of around 100 tons of CO2 emissions annually. The Blumau facility now exemplifies the full cycle of energy efficiency, ensuring that the geothermal well Frutura GT-2 becomes a source of power year-round. By maximizing the use of their geothermal borehole, especially during summer months when heating is less needed, they are not only staying true to their green ethos but also leading by example in the effective use of renewable energy. The swift and strategic commissioning of this project, completed in less than ten months, marks a milestone in modular technology's role in sustainable agriculture. The Hershey Company is looking to procure more energy from renewable and zero-emissions sources to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, especially those generated from scope 1 and 2, according to the chocolate manufacturer’s latest ESG report. Hershey said it purchased around 80% of its electricity from green sources in 2023, up from 77% in 2022. The company attributed the increase to investments it had made in solar power purchase agreements and a combination of zero emission and renewable energy credits it had acquired. Among those are its operational PPAs in Texas and North Carolina, which delivered approximately 25% of electricity to its U.S. operations. These developments fall in line with Hershey’s goal to source 100% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030 and its broader sustainability target of reducing scope 1 and 2 emissions by over 50% and scope 3 emissions by 25% by the end of the decade, compared to a 2018 baseline.
