🚧 Construction Update: Exciting progress on the River St project! As of February 1st, we've kicked off construction with a focus on demolishing existing buildings, securing the site perimeter, and mobilization. 🏗️ Also, a reminder that as of February 1st, there is no parking on Central Street and River Street (construction side). Trucks will enter at the Central and River Street corner, exiting onto Central daily between 7 am - 6 pm. Stay tuned for more updates on this transformative journey! #RiverStProject#ConstructionUpdate 🌐👷♂️
Hardly shocking, but goes to show nothing is immune to inflation.
What’s really interesting to me are these forecasts.
Not to say there isn’t a strong business case for the Green Line. Especially as our population balloons.
But forecasts are a garbage-in-garbage out exercise. And it would be fascinating to learn how numbers like these are derived.
“The city-shaping benefits from building the core of Phase 1 remain strong. In addition to ridership numbers, the revised Phase 1 of Green Line will connect Calgarians to 162,000 jobs within walking distance of stations, remove 15,000 tonnes of GHG emissions annually and unlock a maximum potential of 70,000 housing units through strategic transit-oriented development along the alignment.”

Calgary City Council has approved a revised Phase 1 project and capital request to address rising costs. The Green Line LRT is moving forward and on track to begin main construction from Lynnwood/Millican in the southeast to Eau Claire by the end of 2024. Read the release here: https://lnkd.in/gKthwjwa.
I was amazed to learn that up to 75% of the cost of construction is in the groundwork and over £10bn is spent annually removing construction waste. Rodgers Leask our civils and geo-environmental teams work together to reduce waste, save time and money for our clients. I am delighted to have recently had an article on our synergy published on www.building.co.uk on this issue. The publication of this article is really good timing as the government have recently made available the Brownfield release fund and only last week stated, ‘Big city councils must prioritise brownfield development, building new homes in right places and protecting the Green Belt’. If you are considering development on a brownfield site we can help you optimise the development through our joined up holistic approach. #sustainability#regeneration#engineering#landdevelopment#brownfield#remediation#demolition#mmp#earthworks#masterplanning#valueengineeringhttps://lnkd.in/eW7cUg5m
