Ferrari Keeps Combustion Alive And Roaring With Hydrogen Engine Plans 🏎️ The world is changing, McLaren is pedaling hybrid hypercars, Porsche has an EV selling like hot cakes and even Lamborghini has fitted battery packs to its latest cars in search of more performance. Now, Ferrari is looking for ways to add hydrogen power to its cars, but it could bring with it some very un-Ferrari qualities. The famed Italian supercar maker has filed a patent for a new hydrogen combustion powertrain, reports Motor Authority. An intelligent solution for a supercar, although for mass adoption its effectiveness would depend on the success of hydrogenerators, which are currently marginal. 🚗🔊 The fact that it's a hydrogen engine doesn't strike me. Since the introduction of the Euro5 emissions limits in 2020 many of the super-sport bikes like the Honda CBR600RR and Yamaha R6 have disappeared from the market. Kawasaki’s ZX-4RR 400cc inline four however, passes these new emissions controls and will arrive at the end of this year. Kawasaki implements ride by wire, and three catalyzers in the exhaust help turn unburnt hydrocarbons into CO2 and water. Triple rate valve springs prevent float and a cylinder with a big bore and small stroke allow for 78.9bhp at 14,500 rpms.
