🌍 Green NCAP's Updated LCA Tool: How do you use it? 🌍 Explore the newly updated Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tool from Green NCAP! With expanded data on countries like Norway, new fuel types, and updated info on battery production and biofuel mixes, it’s easier than ever to compare vehicles’ environmental impact. Choose from over 34,000 cars—including 4,000 new ones for 2024—and select up to 3 vehicles to analyse and compare their full life cycle. Use official WLTP values or Green NCAP-tested fuel/energy consumption data to make greener choices! You can also compare the EU renewable electricity mix data with other regions for more sustainable driving. To understand the true ecological impact and sustainability of a car, it must be viewed in the context of its whole life cycle. Life Cycle Assessment, or LCA, is the method that considers the processes and flows of resources and energy associated with the car’s production, usage, and recycling to predict the car’s environmental impact over its entire lifetime “from cradle to grave.” "The LCA of vehicles is a crucial component of the information provided by Green NCAP. Green NCAP meets Korean Green NCAP! After several years of online exchange, we finally had the chance to meet in person at the 17th UNECE IWG Automotive Life Cycle Assessment meeting. Last week, on 26-27 September, the forum was kindly hosted by Toyota Motor Europe and the European Commission in Brussels. There, it was a pleasure to spend time with Korean Green NCAP experts Han Ho Song from Seoul National University and Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute (KATRI) colleagues Inji Park and Charyung Kim Ja-ryong ─ co-chair of the A-LCA working group. There is a lot to speak about and our exchange will be intensified in future to achieve more regarding Vehicle Interior Air Quality (VIAQ), Energy Demand and LCA and Greenhouse Gases. Cooperation for #greenervehicles worldwide.

I am very proud and thankful that I was invited to represent Green NCAP at the UN Science Summit on Sustainable Transportation! 🍃 🚗 𝗨𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁ü𝘁𝘇𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘇𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗹𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗳ü𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗡𝗖𝗔𝗣 🚗 🍃   In den letzten Wochen wurden auf dem Rollenprüfstand der 𝗧𝗨 𝗪𝗶𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗺𝗯𝗛 mit Unterstützung des IFA - Institut für Fahrzeugantriebe und Automobiltechnik der Technische Universität Wien Messungen zur Weiterentwicklung der Messprozedur für das 2025er Programm von Green NCAP durchgeführt. Green NCAP hat sich zum Ziel gesetzt, die Umweltauswirkungen von Fahrzeugen zu bewerten und so dem Konsumenten ein zusätzliches Entscheidungskriterium zur Seite zu stellen. Ähnlich zu den bekannten Euro NCAP-Crashtests, erfolgt die Bewertung mit Hilfe von Sternen. Je mehr Sterne, umso umweltfreundlicher ist das Fahrzeug. Die Messungen für die Bewertung werden sowohl auf dem Rollenprüfstand als auch im realen Straßenverkehr durchgeführt. Um das gesamte Fahrzeugleben abzudecken, findet zusätzlich eine Lebenszyklusanalyse (Herstellung, Betrieb und Entsorgung) statt. Konkret wurde im Auftrag des ÖAMTC ein batterieelektrisches Fahrzeug und im Auftrag der Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen ein Hybridfahrzeug untersucht. Im Fokus der Tests steht eine Überprüfung der Durchführbarkeit des Messprogramms. Außerdem soll der Einfluss der geänderten Testprozeduren und der damit gewonnen Messwerte auf das Fahrzeug-Rating abgeschätzt werden. Wir freuen uns als aktiver Partner bei der Weiterentwicklung des Messprogramm dabei sein zu dürfen.   🍃 🚗 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗡𝗖𝗔𝗣🚗🍃   In recent weeks, with the support of the Institute for IFA - Institut für Fahrzeugantriebe und Automobiltechnik at Technische Universität Wien, measurements have been carried out on the roller dynamometer at the 𝗧𝗨 𝗪𝗶𝗲𝗻 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝗺𝗯𝗛 to further develop the testing procedure for Green NCAP's 2025 program. Green NCAP aims to assess the environmental impact of vehicles, providing consumers with an additional decision-making criterion. Similar to the well-known Euro NCAP crash tests, the evaluation is conducted using a star rating system: the more stars a vehicle earns, the more environmentally friendly it is. The measurements for the assessment are conducted both on the roller test bench and in real-world driving conditions. To cover the entire vehicle life cycle, a life cycle analysis (including production, operation, and disposal) is also carried out. Specifically, a battery-electric vehicle was tested on behalf of ÖAMTC, and a hybrid vehicle on behalf of Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen . The focus of the tests is to review the feasibility of the measurement program. Additionally, the impact of the modified testing procedures and the resulting measurement data on the vehicle rating will be assessed We are pleased to be an active partner in the further development of the testing program.    📷 ATC

🌎 The Kia Ceed finishes with 2 Green Stars 🌎 Green NCAP recently performed its assessment on the petrol-powered Kia Ceed⛽. The popular and affordable hatchback scores the lowest so far this 2024 with 2 Green Stars and an Average Score of 37%. 🍃 The Ceed’s environmental performance calls for further improvements in emissions reduction and fuel economy. It struggles most with greenhouse gas emissions, namely CO2, like most other fossil-fuelled cars. Pollutants are managed only marginally, and the vehicle fails to retain exhaust aftertreatment robustness in the Highway Test. 🌎 The Volkswagen Taigo takes 3 Green Stars 🌎 Green NCAP recently performed its assessment on the petrol Volkswagen Taigo⛽. The light compact crossover lands a mid-rating of 3 Green Stars and an Average Score of 53%. 🍃 The vehicle convinces consumers with good gaseous pollutant levels, and particle emissions lower than those of many of its competitors. 🌎 The Peugeot 308 grabs 3 Green Stars 🌎 Green NCAP recently performed its assessment on the diesel-fuelled Peugeot 308⛽. Working with its BlueHDi diesel engine, the hatchback secures a mid-rating of 3 Green Stars and an Average Score of 55%. 🍃 The diesel powertrain is convincing not only with its reasonable fuel consumption values but also as it scores well in Clean Air with decent control of pollutant output. 🌎 The BYD SEAL U secures itself of 5 Green Stars 🌎 Green NCAP recently performed its assessment on the electric BYD SEAL U⚡. Noted by some as “BYD’s most convincing entry into Europe yet,” the large SUV obtains 5 Green Stars and an Average Score of 93%. 🍃 Thanks to its zero tailpipe emissions, good energy efficiency, and minimal greenhouse gas emissions, the SEAL-U emerges on par with other tested BYD models: the BYD ATTO 3 in 2023 and the BYD DOLPHIN in 2024. However, the programme recommends that BYD further improve the efficiency of its onboard charger. With 11 kW charging, normally about 89% of the energy withdrawn from the plug is available for the vehicle to use. 🌎 The Kia EV6 succeeds with 5 Green Stars 🌎 Green NCAP recently performed its assessment on the electric Kia EV6⚡. Awarded as the European Car of the Year in 2022, the 2024 hatchback earns 5 Green Stars and an Average Score of 94%. 🍃 The EV6’s Highway and Cold Ambient Test energy demand figures are responsible for scores notably lower than those of the Hyundai IONIQ 6 tested in 2024 but do earn the EV6 the same rating as the IONIQ 5 tested in 2022. The Kia EV6 also shares the same grid-to-battery output efficiency as the Toyota bZ4X, resulting in remarkably minimised energy losses from its charger and battery.
