My husband and I don't have a 50/50 split at home when it comes to our kids. We have a 47,5/47,5 split and then my mom has 5%... sometimes more.  I joined Caroline's podcast, to talk about how we balance our careers and life with 2 little kids. 👉 The biggest help comes from my mom. She picks up once a week, she hangs with the kids and she invites them home to stay with her in the country side from time to time. 🐥 🐓 🐴 🐕 Wanting to have both a career and family, while not burning out, requires help.  It used to be a given that the older generations would help with child rearing, but today this is not the case for many here. ⌚ For one, our parents stay longer on the job market and they are busy 💪 Secondly and maybe more importantly; asking for help is becoming less OK - at least that’s how many millennial parents feel. We feel like we’re supposed to take care of it all - at work and at home - and asking for help might seem like not taking responsibility.  👀 Lastly; Parents today are less comfortable letting their parents raise their kids, which can make it difficult for grandparents to feel included and wanted. A great conversation with so many dimissions.. and feelings. I am also still learning to ask for help.. especially if it's outside of family, even though I truly dream of building a village. Until I get there, I will just talk about it on podcasts. :) #worklifebalance #parentlife #millennials

On average, millennials held around 4.2 jobs in their first decade out of college, whereas the older generation held about 2.6 jobs in the same period. This shift indicates a greater emphasis on finding roles that align with personal values and career growth. The rise of the gig economy and freelance work offers more flexible career options. 36% of the U.S. workforce engaged in freelance work in 2023, highlighting a trend toward non-traditional employment and multiple income streams. Unlike previous generations who often prioritised job security and stability, younger generations place a higher value on work-life balance and personal well-being. Most millennials prioritise work-life balance over other factors when evaluating job opportunities. The shift to remote work, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, has changed how people view their work environments. Remote work can improve productivity and job satisfaction, offering a viable solution for balancing work and personal life. Younger generations are increasingly seeking purpose-driven work. Most professionals want to work at companies that reflect their values. This shift underscores the importance of finding meaning and impact in one's career. Lifelong learning has become essential in today’s fast-paced world. CEOs are concerned about the availability of key skills, highlighting the need for ongoing skill development and adaptability. Be open to new opportunities and adaptable in your career path. The ability to pivot is crucial in today’s dynamic environment. Focus on achieving a healthy work-life balance that supports your personal and professional goals. Align your career with your values and seek out work that is meaningful and fulfilling. Continuously develop your skills and knowledge to stay competitive and adaptable in your field. As the world changes, so too must our approaches to work and success. They've spent so long building their careers in that business. It's criminal to lose them and also very expensive to replace them!" 💡 "I think it opened my eyes to the fact that actually, it's not always the fact that businesses don't want to help, it's the fact they don't know HOW to help." 💡 "I can't promise that you won't lose a bit of confidence because your life will be different and it's transformational.. But what I do say, is that you need somebody (...) who's not a family member, somebody who's not in the business, somebody you can talk to, who's got lived experience of this time of pivotal change really. You can then talk about how you're feeling, sit with that feeling and talk about strategies to help you move forward." 💡 "In our society at least, we don't value what motherhood brings like other cultures do. You look around the world and Chinese cultures or African cultures where mothers are valued, mothers are supported, especially in those first 40 days postnatally, which sets them up to build that resilience, whether it's physically, mentally or emotionally, to carry on moving forward and taking on the challenges."
