If we step into the classroom and excite 12-13 year old pupils about the career opportunities soon to be within their grasp. * What if we provide our workforce of tomorrow with the skills and attributes to adapt and thrive, to innovate and lead in sectors where they can problem solve and help deliver the benefits that renewables can bring not just for Scotland and the UK but across the globe. SSE Renewables did just that. Ciara Jamieson Pauline Allison and Claire McGhie stepped into Knox Academy, Haddington, East Lothian for the day and the buzz created might just have powered the school. SSE Renewables are building more off shore wind farms than any other company in the world right now. The company is currently working on one of the largest wind farm opportunities in the world, 'Berwick Bank Windfarm', offshore, East Lothian, Scotland. They don’t just do the tough stuff but make learning in the classroom fun, memorable and focused on outcomes that matter to us all. Supporting our young learners and workforce of tomorrow to learn through industry engagement helps give our pupils agency. It gives them a glimpse of their potential future self. It begins to equip them with the knowledge and networks to go on and consider a future career in an industry at the forefront of delivering on climate change via renewable energy. Thanks to the Berwick Bank windfarm team who brought such verve and insight into Knox Academy for the S2 year group. They brought the science curriculum to life in such an animated, playful and impactful way. I’ve never seen so many happy learners in a school hall in one day, so eager to present their posters and proof of learning. Are 🌟 still a thing? The green economy is growing and the graduates of our Green Jobs Workforce Development Program are filling the need for qualified workforce participants. Lekha Ajit, 22, a graduate of the program, was recently highlighted as one of a handful of success stories by the Los Angeles Times: "I think people are starting to incline toward green jobs," Lekha told LA Times reporter Russ Mitchell. "The younger generation wants to be associated with careers where they can work for a cause." Lekha is eager to contribute to the positive impact the cleantech industry is making in our communities: "If [green energy] is going to be the future, why not be part of the change now?" asked Lekha. A group of young people from Belfast recently visited our Long Mountain Wind Farm to find out about job opportunities in the wind industry. The visit was part of an employability skills programme run by Business in the Community Ireland and the social justice charity, Extern. The group took a tour around our green hydrogen production compound, got a look inside one of the turbine towers and found out about the wide range of jobs available in the wind industry and different career paths, including paid apprenticeships. Our Ops team shared their own experiences of training and working in wind. 16-year-old Riley Messom told us, “I was surprised to hear how many jobs were involved in building and running a wind farm and it was hard to fathom how the huge turbines get delivered and built. Overall, I was most interested in the use of drone technology to monitor the turbines and avoid climbing them every day – I wouldn’t want to be doing that!” Extern supports young people and families through a range of projects and services across the island of Ireland, including employability skills training. Its Pathways Project in Belfast prepares young adults from disadvantaged areas for the next steps, such as finding work or going back into the education system. The charity is working with Business in the Community and BITC members to help service users find employment and training opportunities. Both Extern and BITC believe charities, colleges and businesses all play a vital road in building an inclusive workforce by promoting job and training opportunities. This is in line with Energia Group’s commitment to UN SDG8 Decent Work and Economic Growth. California Resources Corporation Announces CTV I Elk Hills Community Benefits Plan - California Resources Corporation announced the launch of its Carbon TerraVault I Elk Hills Community Benefits Plan in Kern County, California. - The plan aims to commit 1% of each CTV I project investment toward community development programs. - The initiative adheres to four core policy priorities set by the U.S. Department of Energy. - Goals include investing in workforce development, engaging with communities, advancing diversity and equity, and implementing the Justice 40 initiative. - The plan will be deployed in two phases. - Phase One will establish a Community Advisory Council by the end of 2024. - Phase Two aims to enhance partnerships with local labor organizations and educational institutions. - The program will offer a 10-week pre-apprenticeship training to help local workers transition into registered apprenticeship programs. - Collaborations will be extended with California State University, Bakersfield for student internships and mentorships. - Clean energy education programs will be further developed with local community colleges. - Partnerships with recreation and educational districts will advance STEAM education for local students. - CRC will continue supporting local academic initiatives, including the CRC Carbon Management Institute. - The CTV I Elk Hills CBP reflects CRC's commitment to community engagement and environmental stewardship. - Carbon TerraVault Holdings is focused on carbon capture, transport, and storage projects. - CRC aims to maximize land and mineral value for decarbonization projects while providing responsibly sourced energy. https://lnkd.in/giy4wGVz

The city boasts a high retention rate of 35%, following cities like Manchester (50%) and Glasgow (41%), leading to a thriving energy tech and science sector. The city is home to various high-growth industries like clean tech, climate tech, and renewables, with over 300 companies employing nearly 4,400 people and generating over £520 million in turnover annually. There is potential for an additional 3,200 jobs in the next five years, making 'professional, scientific, and tech' the fastest-growing sectors in the city. Aberdeen's focus on renewable energy has created numerous opportunities for students interested in science and technology.
