🌬 At a very windy Flichity Bridge, Deputy First Minister and MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch, Kate Forbes MSP, officially reopened the bridge following a £2.5m upgrade. The investment comes as part of our 49.9MW Aberarder Wind Farm project which is currently under construction in Strathnairn. 🚧 The area in which the bridge is located is susceptible to flooding during bad weather and investment on a new bridge and road redesign will reduce flooding by lifting the road levels across the bridge and approaches either side, maintaining community access to vital services. It's important that our projects leave a lasting legacy in the communities that are closest. Watch the video below to find out more 🎥 👇
About us
SSE Renewables is a leading developer and operator of renewable energy generation, headquartered in the UK and Ireland, with a growing presence internationally. Part of the SSE plc group, we have an operational portfolio of around 4GW of onshore wind, offshore wind and hydro generation, with a secured future project pipeline of over 15GW in development. Our operational portfolio comprises nearly 2GW of onshore wind capacity, almost 0.5GW of offshore wind capacity, and almost 1.5GW of flexible hydro power and pumped storage capacity. These generation assets produce around 10TWh of renewable power each year. We're committed to delivering the green energy the world needs now and in the future. Our 15GW+ construction and development pipeline includes 3.8GW of onshore wind, 1.3GW of pumped storage, 1.2GW of solar energy and battery storage, and 8.8GW of offshore wind energy - the largest offshore development pipeline in the UK and Ireland. We know offshore wind will be the backbone of a net zero power system and that's why we're building more offshore wind than any other company in the world right now. This includes the world's largest offshore wind farm, the 3.6GW Dogger Bank project in the North Sea, and the world's deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm, the 1.1GW Seagreen project off the Scottish coast. We're a team of around 1,500 renewable energy professionals based across the UK, Ireland, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, Japan and the USA. We've honed our skills through over 20 years of delivering world-leading projects with expertise in project design and optimisation, consenting and stakeholder engagement, financing, procurement, construction, and operations.

Today we’re celebrating Global Hydropower Day! 🌍 We operate the largest fleet of hydro-electric power assets across eight hydro schemes in Scotland. Our hydro portfolio totals 1,459MW of installed capacity, including 300MW of pumped storage and 750MW of flexible hydro. 💧 #Hydropower will continue to play a vital role in the path to achieving UK and Scottish net zero carbon emissions targets, which is why we're actively seeking investment opportunities for hydro generation, including repowering of existing hydro power plants, and adding pumping capabilities to existing stations. We recently completed a £50 million project, one of the largest we've made to our hydro fleet, to repower Tummel Bridge Power Station and increase its potential generation output from 34 to 40 megawatts (MW) during optimum conditions. ⚡ Tummel Bridge has been a part of the energy landscape for generations and the investment we made will ensure the iconic and historic site continues to play a crucial role in the UK's energy mix for decades to come. #GlobalHydropowerDay

We’re pleased to welcome the UK Government’s announcement of a new scheme to support long-duration electricity storage projects, including #pumpedstorage #hydro. The new cap and floor scheme can unlock investment in critical nation building projects including what will be the UK’s largest natural battery, SSE plc’s 1.3GW Coire Glas pumped storage hydro scheme in the Scottish #Highlands. Subject to successfully securing a cap and floor agreement in an appropriately designed scheme and then taking a final investment decision to enter construction, Coire Glas would become the UK’s largest natural battery once operational, providing vital back up for #renewable power. https://lnkd.in/gUJWvR3r

Our final panel discussion involvement at this year's Floating Offshore Wind conference provided Fingal Mckiernan, our Commercial Fisheries Manager, the opportunity to discuss how we manage our relationship with fisheries as we develop our pipeline of offshore wind projects. Key topics included a focus on the best ways to alleviate conflicts, project marine ecosystems and promote a sustainable development of both fisheries and floating offshore wind projects through mitigation measures and policy support. #FloatingWind24

We’re looking forward to another busy day at Floating Offshore Wind 2024. Our Commercial Fisheries Manager, Fingal Mckiernan, will be speaking later today in a panel discussion about navigating fisheries and how floating offshore wind can coexist to achieve a harmonious relationship. We've also got a packed programme of speakers on the Theatre exhibit which we are sponsoring. #FloatingWind24

Our Head of Stakeholder Engagement for Offshore Wind, Gary Donlin, hosted a panel discussion on the SSE Renewables sponsored Theatre in the exhibition hall at the Floating Offshore Wind conference. Gary was joined by Fingal Mckiernan our Commercial Fisheries Manager and Ossian Wind Farm’s Consents Team Manager Paul Darnbrough, where they spoke about key consenting challenges and opportunities. The conversation focused on drawing on the experience from the Ossian Wind Farm floating offshore wind project, our JV project with Marubeni Corporation and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, and our wider fixed bottom wind portfolio to ensure we create opportunities that will deliver significant environmental benefits. 🍃 #FloatingWind24

Construction is officially underway at our largest battery storage project at Monk Fryston, North Yorkshire. 🚧 A ceremony to mark the start of construction works on the 320MW facility took place with representatives from SSE Renewables, principal contractors Morrison Energy Services, and energy storage supplier Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd. The project is our largest battery storage facility in construction and one of the largest of its kind in the UK. Once completed, the site could power over half a million homes for up to two hours at a time, during times of peak demand. ⚡ Read more about the battery storage project below 👇 https://lnkd.in/ei5Biwfa
