🌟 Taking a moment to reconnect after a period of absence—online and offline—to share some reflections with all of you wonderful individuals.
📝 I'll break this into two parts: one detailing the past year's events (for those interested - and also in two posts as I later found out about the character limit) and another focusing on the lessons and revelations I've encountered (tailored for the LinkedIn audience). It's been quite a ride, so for those accompanying this journey, fasten your seatbelts—it's been a year of twists and turns.
🎓 Let's begin with a milestone: qualifying as a chartered certified accountant last April. Despite this achievement, that summer proved challenging. I was extremely busy, setting aside things I cherished, feeling a loss of self. Those close to me noticed a shift—I became less outgoing, more anxious; a departure from my usual self. Even my family were saying that I didn’t seem myself which is when you know it’s bad! In hindsight, it's clear this was my reality at the time, a reality I hadn't acknowledged.
🏙️ I held a strong desire to work in London, almost a societal expectation these days I feel like. So, I pursued a new job in the bustling city, hoping for a fresh start post-feedback from my family. I still see the people from Saffery often and have made plenty of friends for life there so I am extremely grateful for my experience. In fact last week we had a great excursion to Twickenham to watch the Rugby!
🤝 Transitioning to BDO, I moved in with a childhood best friend and encountered a diverse group and had the chance to impart audit fundamentals to the big intakes of new-joiners with the incredible L&D team, honing my presentation skills—an aspect I've always relished. However, the actual audit work didn't align with my expectations. Consequently, we amicably parted ways, and I took a very horizontal leap into the realm of recruitment.
